No1B 30-06 in like new condition. I have never owned one, what can I expect in accuracy and recoil? Thanks

Generally speaking, I'd say $900-ish is at the upper end of what you should spend depending on quality of the wood figure and grain. Anything less than $750-ish would be a good deal. Of course price and desire is pretty subjective so other people's answers may vary.

Accuracy can be really good...but there are a few lemons out there. Some people avoid the red pad models (before Ruger started making their own barrels) in favor of black pad models when Ruger started making their own barrels. There is a transitional period there though.

I personally would worry over accuracy too much. 1-1.25MOA should be easy to get with some guns easily beating that. My personal red pad '06 does better than MOA with 165gr Partitions and hovers around MOA with 200gr Partitions.

Scope choice can add some weight but you are looking at a 9lb+ rig so recoil is manageable. The hard rubber recoil pad supplied by the factory isn't worth squat at softening felt recoil. 180-200gr bullets definitely get your attention. Getting a Decelerator pad fitted will go a long way in shooting comfort...besides that, it's like shooting any other .30-06.

My #1 '06 is so old, it's technically not a #1B. But, I've owned two Bs over the years - one in 25/06 and one in .338 Win. Mag. With my handloads, the 25 tied my best 100-yard group to-date. The first two shots went into one .257" hole - with a witness! The witness called bull so put a Sharpie line at opposite edges of the single hole. We went back to the bench, and the 3rd shot cut the tiniest crescent moon sliver out of one of those lines. The hole measured maybe .259" across. The .338 did 1/2", 3-shot groups every time with 210gr. Partitions. All I did with these rifles was take them out of the box and put a scope on them. No other "accurizing" work was done {although I'm pretty darned good at the loading bench }. As someone mentioned, that is not a light rifle. Kind of bulky too. Recoil should not be an issue.

Well I picked it up this morning. It is in great condition and came with rings and the original Aetec 2.8-10 scope. Got it for $750 and am very pleased with it.

Travis I bought a rifle this week .It is a Aetec 2.8-10 scope..... I thought it was 2.5-10, but my mind jumped to conclusions. I thought you were wrong, but it was me.

I inherited a Liberty 1B .30-06 from Dad - it is quite accurate, and will easily push 150's over 3100 fps, out of the 26" barrel.
