I don't recall ever seeing one before today, in the used rifle rack at Scheel's in Omaha.

Yeah, they were a limited run from several years ago. They have a strong cult following now. You don't see a lot of used ones around.

I might have to check it out. I only live ten minutes away.

Thanks for the heads up; just bought it!
Posted By: 260Remguy Re: #1 in 30-30? - 01/16/18
You're welcome, glad to be of assistance.
Posted By: kandpand Re: #1 in 30-30? - 01/16/18
I have wanted one for several years.

I'd like to have a modern Low Wall in .30-30, but so far neither Ballard nor C Sharps will build it. I reckon I'll have to get one of the Japanese rifles and get someone to rebore it.

Congratulations! The 1A in 30 WCF is truly a doll.

I do know where there is a custom High Wall in .30-30 Ackley Improved. I've been thinking about it for a while...

I also know about a certain four digit #1 in 6mm, that's real interesting.

Dang! No wonder it wasn’t on display when I was there this afternoon.

That would be cool; I might just do that!

Uberti makes a rolling block in .30-30.

But likely much more accurate.

I seriously doubt that.

What is it with the No. 1 haters. Have you ever owned one...? Ever shot one...? Or just heard some gunshop BS artist spouting how "they don't shoot"!

I've owned many MANY No.1's, and can think of exactly one that wasn't at least a 1.5" gun. No hokey black magic fixes, no extensive accurizing techniques, just proper setup and finding the right load.

Jeez!

I had a Ruger 1A in 30/30 sent to me last summer because the owner said it didn't shoot well. It didn't. It took very little effort to get it shooting under 1.5 moa though and I'm sure it would have done better with any sort of load development. I thought it was a pretty neat rifle.

21317 K1A listed on the Ruger site now. Lipsey's special.

Also SS .257 RSI.

I want one. Glad it's 22" barrel and not the recently issued 20" stubs. I've killed deer with dozens (got a list) of different rounds from the 22 Hornet to the 458 Win Mag, and believe I am free and clear of 'magnumitis' now. For ranges up to a bit over 100 yards I believe the 30/30 is quite capable for whitetail deer at least here in Georgia. I've used Marlin lever guns and Handi Rifles in 30/30 standard and Ackley Improved forms and never felt undergunned. That 'list' of all rifles, pistols, muzzle loaders and archery equipment also includes ranges kill shots were taken. Average for 60+ deer -- 36 yards.
My only problems with the new Ruger No.1 30/30 will be saving up the $$ to purchase it, and resisting the urge to run an Ackley Improved reamer into it's chamber.
I want one.

Not that anyone really cares and I know I am just one occasional poster, ok. so - taken with a grain of internet salt: I consider the 30/30 the lowest power and smallest bore round that is highly appropriate for the Ruger No1. And, I also "personally" consider the 30/30 and excellent and well balanced 30 caliber hunting round. At one time the 30/30 was considered the ideal (as n best) cartridge for all North American full size game hunting any deer, any moose , elk or any size bear. Not sexy today. Not chambered in black rambo guns or popular mil surps. Not my fault.

Why the No1 limit? First and foremost is the inheritance accuracy of the No1, while good, it is not excellent. While they can all be made to shoot excellent, that is true of any gun on the planet. The average person, myself being average, should not demand or expect 1 moa performance from a No1. Rounds like 30/30 are not long range, not varmint rounds. I dont see No1 for rounds like 22 anything, 6.5 anything, 243 and the like. I do see the No1 with larger and larger bores with slower bullets and shorter ranges on animals that you drag out not stuff in you jacket or leave scattered over a field. I have 2 number ones, 40 and 45 caliber. Not thrilled, but fully satisfied.

Beyond that, these are fairly heavy guns. Not overly heavy either. They can be made to handle quickly with medium or short barrels and that all works hand in glove with full size game hunting rounds.

If I want bigger, better than 30/30 in a No1 - I am not going 30/40,308 or 300HH, I am considering 38/55, maybe 358 ( although rimmed rounds preferred), on up in bore size,

Pot stirred. Time to go shooting.

What is the best way to acquire one of the Lipsey specials? I let the first run of 30-30's get by. I don't what that to happen again.

Your could ask your LGS to establish an account with Lipsey's.

Check out Classic sporting Arms. I have been a Lipsey's dealer over 10 years and usually get several of their Exclusives, especially the Ruger No.1's.

Lee, you might also give Darrik at Whittakers Guns a PM ( shortactionsmoker) sometimes he can come up with the darnedest things!
Posted By: fourbore Re: #1 in 30-30? - 01/22/18
here is a list of Lipsey affiliated local dealer, a very very long list:

https://www.lipseys.com/dealerfinder.aspx

It may require giving a bricks and mortar delaer and little honest profit. Hopefully right for all concerned.

I think I would be hard pressed to find a dealer who cold not get a Lipsey firearm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed on the 2018 No.1 wood!!

I saw a No.1 30-30 in the Scheels store in Grand Forks ND, a couple of days ago.
Decent wood in the buttstock.

i like to collect Ruger no.1`s and a 30-30 would fit in just fine. but for the people who don`t think Ruger no.1`s don`t shoot well ,that`s not really true. I have a custom no.1 with a brux barrel and I have killed animals a long ways out ,don`t forget Ruger no. 1`s are shorter than a bolt gun by about 4 inches no.1`s don`t have a receiver. I do use a niteforce scope on my no.1 too some of the rest of my no.1`s I use leupold too. I think some people just don`t shoot well with any gun and if you put a cheap scope on a good rifle most of the time that rifle won`t shoot well either or use cheap ammo. in a enclosed deer stand with a rifle its hard to beat a Ruger no.1 its shorter without the receiver and much easier to handle . accuracy ? that`s bullcrap a Ruger no. 1 won`t shoot well ! its the indian ,I have some standard Ruger no.1`s that shoot like a bench rifle right out of the box.

Thanks for that link! I discovered that my LGS (about 25 miles away) is listed, as is the little shop in Lordsburg (about 40 miles away)--never would have guessed...
