Anyone make their own blankets out of your catches? Ive always wanted a fox fur blanket..If that works out maybe a beaver and coyote will follow.

I know there are places that will sew your fur, but I have heard very mixed results. For the price they charge you could buy your own fur sewing machine, anyone use one? I have no idea what ones are good, but see some vintage ones on ebay for around $400, that look like they were built to last.

when i was younger I trapped for profit, but have pretty much quit trapping all together. the idea of making a blanket out of my own fur interests me enough to get back at it.

Every now and then somebody will post a DIY blanket over on trapperman, and quite honestly they never look close to as nice as a professional blanket. There is a lot more that goes into it than just sewing the pelts together. I would not try it myself.

After all the money that goes into tanning, and the time that that goes into catching the pelts and putting up the fur, money well spent on a furrier.

I would probably also start with beaver, have them plucked sheared and dyed, then made into the blanket. One of the challenges is matching the pelts. With a small collection that might be difficult. But with dyed beaver, that would take the matching out of it.

Yes. The greatest difficulty is matching similar hides. With coyote, I can have 30 laying around and no two look alike.
