Wifey ordered me the DVD and book for Father's Day! I realize iMovie was made in 1975 but looks like a good one! Appears to have some 1895 Winchester action in it too! Mebbe a bit of anacronystic as the Russian Contract guns didn't go into production until 1915. But I'll take what I can get!

Review to follow.

It's a terrific movie.

Spoiler - the 1895 doesn't appear until toward the end but don't let that stop you from enjoying the movie.

Thanks Jim! I've seen Some of the you tube vids and it looks great. Well I would have expected no less from Kurosawa.

Book really interests me too!

I know the author died early in life. 1930 @ 57 y o. Living in Vladivostok may have had something to do with it. But his wife was tried and executed ( within like 15 minutes of the verdict) in 1938 for being a member of a "spy and sabotage ring started by her husband", and their daughter sent to the Gulag.
