Fun evening as my plan for our family hunt went just as hoped. First deer hunt and Layne made a nice shot to put meat on the table! My wife was with Layne to help coach him and I had them positioned at the edge of a CRP field with a ravine 75 yards down the hill in front of them where deer like to slip out into the wheat field. They thought it was a doe when it stepped out with two minutes of shooting light left, but turned out to be a buck with either antler knobs or broken off right at the pedicle. (Didn't matter as he had an either sex tag.) Will have to look closer tomorrow in the daylight.

Broadside shot from 85 yards off a bipod with his .243 using the 90 gr. Accubond and a reduced recoil load using SR4759. (Thanks Seafire!) Broke the front shoulder and deer was down in less than 15 yards. Pretty happy young man!

Very nice, glad the rifle proved itself, could not have gone to better person!
Congrats on the first deer. Hope there are many more.

Congratulations to your son ! That is a beautiful rifle, I'm sure he will cherish it forever.

Congrats to the boy, well done. I like that second picture with the big smile.
That's great!! Good job Dad and son! He looks excited!
Is that a buck with the horns busted off?
I thought at first the antlers had been broken off, but they were actually just little 1" nubs that were polished, but unbroken. Not sure why they grew that way. It was a decent-sized deer, just nothing for antlers.
