Every February we have a couple of friends who travel down from the northwest corner of the country for a visit. We always use that time to do some kind of hunt. A few years ago we went hog hunting with thermals in Texas. The last two years we’ve hunted light geese near Cash, Arkansas. Last year we had a lot of shooting & took 126 geese. This year, the geese seemed very content to roost & feed in large groups while staying on the ground most of the time. There weren’t nearly as many birds migrating with the skies totally clear for most of the day. So we only got a few sporadic chances at some singles & doubles. We could ride around & see hundreds of thousands of geese. We just didn’t get many opportunities to shoot at them. We still had a good time.

Checking the weather & waiting for the sun to come up.

A lot of sitting & waiting…

Calling it quits at the end of the day. It won’t take long to clean the day’s few geese.

In a fit of optimism, I think I brought way too many shells. grin

A motley crew & the results of our final morning.

Looks like fun! Lots of people go out for spring goose season here in the Upper Midwest. Plenty of opportunity!

Last year was awesome! The best thing about this year was the complimentary margaritas at the hotel lobby bar from 5:30 ~ 7:30 after sitting on an inverted 5-gallon bucket in a puddle of icy water for 12 hours. grin

Conservation season can be hit or miss, especially hunting permanent migrator spreads.

Got a hunt planned in a few weeks. Hope to hit it right.

During duck season, did a small ditch crawl and knocked down 35 with three guns shooting three shells each. Fun day.

Most excellent! That looks similar to the pile we had in 2023. Last year was a feast...this year was a famine. grin

That's the thing about hunting Snows, isn't it. Some days you'll get zilch, and other days you can't shoot them away.

I'm just so frustrated that they hardly stop at all around my area on the way back North.
