Went out to a spot here on MCAS Cherry Point and popped a wood duck this am. I'm relatively new to duck hunting and my areas/options are few and far between. I would've probably done better and got two if I'd stayed put instead of immediately going after that one. Darn the luck. Good hunt though despite finding out that a certain hole of water was deeper than I thought . Good luck to all and have a safe one.
HB---Unless you can see him floating, and the current isn't moving him where you won't be able to find him, it's usually safer to go get the duck---it's the old "bird in the hand" theory. Depending on where you are and the weather, you can get your duck swiped by a coon or gator, even when you can see it floating. Congrats, woodies are my favorite duck, to eat or to mount.
Our duck opener is this Saturday. I'll be trying to jump shoot woodies along a creek with my lab. It will be her first hunt! I can't wait.
Steve,

That makes sense and thanks for the tip. I'll remember that one. Good luck y'all.
