I was planning on buying a Beeman R7 and was told the Weichrauch HW30S was the same rifle without checkering. The salesman said Beeman contracts with Weichrauch and it's the same gun for about $100 less. I was going to buy an R7 but if what he said is correct checkering alone isn't worth $100 to me on an air rifle. Does anyone here know how true his statement is?

Same gun and no "fancy" stock. Most of my HW guns are Weihrauchs, I'm not spending the extra money on checkering, I can buy a mount and scope with that.

The stock design may not be quite as adaptable for scope use as the R7 but it wouldn't keep me from purchasing one. Both are very fine air rifles and useful for 90% of the stuff we want to use an air rifle for.

I make airgun stocks and have one of each of the rifles here in the shop. I have a lot of clients who ask for R-7/hw-30 stocks with higher combs.

I simply do not agree about the HW-30s not being as adaptable to scopes..

The comb is about as high AND the 30s has a cheekpeice, which the R-7s currently do not. They are equal in that regard, IMHO.

I do agree about the usefullness of the little guns. For all but serious hunting, they are just fine little air rifles..

Get the hw30 in 22cal it blows the r7 away.

HW30 is a very well made air rifle, low cocking effort and velocity make it great for backyard target practice. I would get one in .177,it makes the most of that gun.

I find that hard to believe.

I have an R-7 in .177 and would buy another in a second.

Well then get a hw30 22cal and find out.

Sacharlie,
Does the HW30 in .22 have enough velocity for clean kills on rats, starlings, and maybe a crow? Curious as I understand velocity in .22 was in the 400-500 fps range.

Thanks

Actually the 22cal produces better kills than the 177. It does more damage. Folks shy away from 22cal because of lower FPS #s. Its not as flat shooting as the 177 but I prefer it anyways.

This is a good site to figure airgun performance.

The question that naturally occurs to me is at what range is it effective at? My only airgun is in .177,but I admit I chose it for economical reasons (cheaper pellets) as much as any other reason. What would you think of a .20 HW30s? Thanks for the link to the site,I'm bookmarking it as it looks like it will be quite useful.

The r7/hw30 are low power and believe to be good only for rats squirels and small birds up to 35yds, which would be a lucky shot for me that far out.

I don't care to brain shoot rabbits even as close as I can spit with such a low power airgun. For me rabbit/coon size critters deserve a bit more power from a 25cal airgun.

Airguns don't develope enough speed to deliever much in foot pounds so the way to go is caliber.
