Just curious if any of you air gunners have tried lubricating your pellets.
The reason I ask is, I have a .20cal Crow Magnum that after trying every pellet available (17) only two pellets shot acceptably and both were discontinued as I was shooting up my supply.
I used the next best pellet but it just wasn't getting the job done and I started wondering about lube.
I've shot plenty of cast bullets in rifle, handgun and muzzle-loaders and they were all lubed although going faster than the air-rifle.
I needed to try something different.
Lee liquid Alox? naaa, too heavy for pellets
"Whiscombe Honey" seemed to work but I wanted a lube that would dry.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried "Chain Wax" chain lube I had on hand for my motorcycle chain. It's a paraffin based wax with petroleum solvents to carry the wax so it goes on light.
I pour the pellets in a small tray, spray the pellets lightly and roll them around to coat them evenly and leave them to dry as the solvent evaporates.(a day or two)
Velocity hasn't changed (866fps/13.7gr)but accuracy is better than with it's former favorite pellet.

Yes I know, no oil in an airgun, Dieseling is dangerous and the pressures will damage the gun!

Just wondering if you're shooting dry or lubed pellets and if it made a difference.

Could be wrong, but I thought dieseling occurs in the piston chamber, not the barrel. The chamber has to be lubed, but with a non-volatile oil in the proper amount. If your lube works, go for it.

Some pellets come from the factory pre-lubed. Some come dry.

I like mine lubed slightly so I give them a small squirt when I open a new can of pellets. Seems to work ok for me. No dieseling thus far.

I've never really saw the need to lube, but know others that have and report good success. If I did, I'd use one of the wax based chain lubes as well.

Some people use Endust furniture spray wax. Others lube and claim to get a little more vel.. Check out GTA International Forum for pellet lubing.
