Has anyone here had experience with the Stoeger Coach Gun?

I really like mine for Cowboy shooting. I did need to fix the fit of the forearm because it would come unlatched on each shot when I first bought it. It was a simple fix.

I ran one for a year before I upgraded to an SKB. With a bit of work they are a decent cowboy shotgun.

I had a Stoeger. Pretty nice gun. I finally gave it to my son. I heard the barrel lug can crack with heavy use. Mine never received that level of abuse and my son doesn't use it that much.

The SKB is a good one, can have issues with the inertia system. I had one slicked up pretty nice. Traded it for a Cold Gold Cup.

The Cadillac of them all is the Browning BSS, worked over by a CAS double gun pro. Still have one. It has a mechanical system and is about as bullet proof as any I've tried.

IMHO,

Thanks for the input. I don't play cowboy and won't be using it for matches, but just as an "all around" shot gun. I liked the all mechanical two trigger design and short barrels with screw in chokes. It looks attractive, comes with a recoil pad, and is low priced in today's dollars. I haven't found anything else with these features at this price point. I was more concerned mechanical reliability over the long haul. The BSS was the best double barrel shot gun for the money back in the day. Too bad they didn't sell well enough to stay in the Browning line up.

I think it would be a nice gun for that use. CAS beats the you know what out of a gun, and even with all that, they do pretty well.

They are a lot of gun for the buck.

I have been wondering about one for deer hunting with slugs. I favor the 20 gauge because of the recoil of the 12 gauge.
Has anyone tried slugs in one?

I usually just put salt on slugs and watch them dissolve... seriously, I'm a big fan of the 20, but view it as on the light side for deer hunting.
