Been keeping track since 1972 here on Lake Nipigon. Earliest ice out was April 1st,1986–that was an El Niño winter also—very mild winter. Only 8 to 10 inches here now so it might be gone by April 1st.
It’s going to be early this year wabigoon. We had very little snow this winter and very few days of bitter cold temps. The lake ice thickness is much less than normal this year.low frost levels. Nothing much runoff this spring.
Unless we get some serious rain this spring, it may be a bad summer, low lake levels and high Forrest fire hazards.
