So, Everybody still here?
Posted By: 1OntarioJim Re: End of the World - 12/21/12
Yep, still here. Keeping in mind that we have another 3 hours in our time zone before the roof falls in. Don't know how the Mayans accounted for the various time zones. smirk

We should somehow give credence to someone who couldn't predict the end of their own civilization in telling us when ours will end?? R-i-g-h-t! laugh

Well, the fact that YOU'RE still here is proof positive that the world didn't end, even if you were the only one left. grin

So far, so good.

wabigoon;
I see that this appears to find you doing well this still, wet morning sir - so that takes care of my usual greeting. smile

Like so very many events in my life thus far, the end of the world has been much different than I expected, so much so that like my cyber friend John in Sweden it appears like we'll be having to file this year's annual tribute to Caesar as well.

We've been getting a fair bit of snow lately and as it's just so freezing - depending on one's elevation - it's made for a slushy, slippery mess on the roads.

One of the chores that I must do shortly then is to go plow the driveway so our snow tire equipped cars can actually be used again. We've got a "typical BC rural driveway" which is to say a bit long and not so very level. Thank heaven for 4WD pickups and tractors with chains or we'd be stuck down here for the duration! wink

Merry Christmas to you and yours wabigoon - as well as the rest of my cyber compatriots who frequent the Canada section of the 'Fire. All the best to you all in 2013 too.

Regards,
Dwayne

Thanks for the kindness Dwayne. A greeting like that is hard to top, so I'll just echo it on to the "gang".
One question about the driveway. Does the trip down balance out the struggle up? Or is that an adventure in it's self?
Posted By: BC30cal Re: End of the World - 12/23/12
wabigoon;
Well sir to answer your question on the trip down, it can in fact become a bit more of an adventure than hoped for if one gets going a bit too fast.

On one memorable occasion I did that in the pickup we had then, an '87 F150 long box, extended cab - and finally stopped only when I bit the woodpile on the side of the garage at the bottom.

A quick trip to my friend who had an auto wrecking business to obtain a replacement for the broken signal light and a bit of time and it was as good as new... blush

Anyway wabigoon we're somewhat fortunate in that as far as Canuck winters go our's here in the Okanagan are typically quite mild and short.

That said though, when it does snow like it has been all day, it's akin to trying to travel in wet oatmeal laid liberally onto a greased and anything but level surface. laugh

All the best to you again this Christmas wabigoon and all the best in 2013 too.

Regards,
Dwayne

Dwayne, our old friend Mister Gravity, and his cohorts,Mister Momentum, and Mister Lubrication, can make for some interesting times. Throw in a dose of complanceny, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Aside for the grace of God, I would not be around now. Several times over.

Our old friend, Rog, might call the adventure, "Slidin' down a slippery slope".
I'll wish Rog,his family, and all a great holliday season.
