Is there an ice cover on your nearby lakes?
If so, how thick?

Was out fishing today on Dragon Lake, BC.

6" - 7" of ice. Kept my fat butt from falling in!

got skunked, but had one break off right at the hole. Looked to be in the 5 lb range (Rainbow)

Ranging from a foot to 2 feet here, 4 1/2 feet at the diamond mines 200 mile north. First shot of real cold in the north, last night's chill factor was minus 39 in Yellowknife, and in Iqaluit it was minus 68!!!

People are just starting to drive their pickup trucks on the lake ice around here. (Central Sask) Just over a foot or so.

Wabigoon Lake has enough to snag wool eyes from.

I'm just outside North Bay, ON and this is the first time in a long time that it's not possible to be out ice fishing on New Years Day. Just the small ponds and lakes have ice on them and it would be questionable being out on them. Big lakes are still in boating season.

I'll also toss in a bit of free advice, when at the "fire", [Linked Image]

Wow this year has been crazy warm for us. I dont think we have had one whole day that was sub freezing. Have fun, dont freeze anything off. Happy New Year to our Northern Neighbors.
