I am going to try Varget in my .257 Roberts and .35 Whelen, what has been your experience with this powder in these calibers?
I think it would depend on bullet weight. Varget is pretty fast for heavier bullets in the Roberts.

Here's a link to work I did with that round. H100V was the best performer with 100 gr. TTSX, H-4350 with 115 gr. NBT's.

My rifle doesn't like heavy bullets, it shoots 100gr. just fine looking for Varget loads for that bullets.
42 grains Varget with 110 Nosler Accubond
Dirt Nap for Whitetails
I shoot 225 Accubonds in my Whelen, and chose between Re15 and Varget. Either of the two will work really well with that combo. Wish I could say I know 200s and 250s would perform the same, but I stuck with the 225.
My experience:
Varget is not as accurate in either cartridge as IMR4895, IMR4064, and H4895.
Never jumped on the Varget bandwagon for 308 or 30-06 M1 and M14/M1a loads either. Plain old IMR4895 always proved more accurate for me.
I inherited a half a pound of Varget from a co-worker who said none of his rifles liked it. Mine rifles didn't either, so my wife's flower garden got a !/4# for the nitrate. They seemed to like it.
Maybe I haven't found the right load with Varget because I am not getting the accuracy with it that I get with IMR 4064 in my .257 Roberts and .35 Whelen. I have been loading 4064 in .30-06 with 165gr. bullets with good results too, it may well become my go to powder.
Own four 257R rifles. Have tried a wide variety of powder in my 257 roberts, including Varget. But that was a number of years ago. Don't recall any special results for accuracy with the Varget in a .257. Did better in my .308. Do know that I stopped using Varget a number of years ago. Basic reason for that was I settled on using Ramshot's Hunter powder in my 257Rs and thought that Varget burned just too dirty and now use . RL 15 replaced any Varget needs I had.
Varget has delivered impressive performance with 250 gr Partions out of 2 different 35 Whelens as well as 150's out of a 300 Savage. Varget has become my "go to" powder in both over the last 3 or 4 years.
Yes, I realize it's an older post.
I had tried Varget once before and was not impressed and gave the remainder of that pound to a co-worker. I decided to try it again last year in preparation for deer season, pretty much the same results as before so I'll shoot it up but won't be buying anymore. In .257 Roberts, .30-06 and .35 Whelen my powder choices are IMR 4064, IMR 4350 and RL-15 in that order.
I found a good load in my finicky 257Robers. 100gr pills of both Nosler and Sierra with 37gr of Varget. Haven’t chronied it, but it’s extremely accurate.

thats an over max load according to nosler.u shouldnt be telling folks false data that dangerous.
Yeah its an overload but is that overload for the old specs or plus p
Varget worked very well in my Number One B. The bullet was a 117 gr. boat tail. Worked so well it will be one of my preferred powders. Also worked well in a built up 257 Roberts Savage 110. YMMV. Worked marginally in a Tikka T3 in 338 Federal using 200 gr Hornady bullets. Varget loading data is similar to IMR 4320.

Bingo! That’s been my experience with that powder since it came out. I never understood folks jumping off bridges when they couldn’t find any during the Obama years....

I tried it in 257, 308, 270, 30/06, and a couple more and it never came close to any rifle’s preferred load.
Follow Up: my little 257 R loves IMR-4350 with 100 grain Partitions.....and nothing else.
My .257 likes IMR 4350 with 100 gr. bullets too although it also likes IMR 4064. I have been loading 39.5 gr. IMR 4350 with 100 gr. Nosler BT, just ordered some 100 gr. Partitions and will try them with 42 gr. IMR 4350 a load that has been recommended to me as being very accurate.
