9 1/2 years ago I rescued a 2 year old flat coat retriever from going back to the HS and probably being terminated. Around here they only recycle them once. He was a fine dog and in the field a logrythmic learner. By the time he had his 7 th field season he was physically done for hunting use. He specialized in just being a dog and a super fine companion for the last 2 years. I came home tonite and he didn't get up to greet me. I walked over to the kennel to see what was up and called him, he tried 3 times to get up and couldn't. I went and got the pickup and laid him out on the frt seat, he was hurting hard. I climbed in to head for the vet and he licked my hand and took his last breath, convulsed and died. Hate to think he suffered all day waiting to say goodbye but he did. Not sure why he died, old age, heart etc. but he died that won't change the hole he left. I buried him among the other dogs I've had and next to his last kennel mate. It doesn't get any easier. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your buddy. Sounds like he was a good one. Congratulations on having such a great dog.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of Coal. Please take comfort in the fond memories that you have of him.
So sorry for your loss. We've all been through this with our dogs and it never gets any easier. Nothing will make the pain of losing a loved dog go away, but a puppy sure helps.
Try to enjoy all the good memories you two made together. Give yourself a big pat on the back for saving your dog from the shelter and providing him with a great life.
Sorry man.
I just buried another one myself.
That was six weeks ago and I caught myself looking at a pic of him at one of our Grouse camps just this morning.
RIP Coal
Oh man, I am tearing up for you. Brings back too many memories of lost friends that I had to say goodbye to. You were one great dog Coal and I am sure there is a place in heaven for all of our beloved pets.
Ugh, that hurts. Sorry for your loss MM.
Doesn't get any easier no matter how many times you go through it. I make sure to give my 2 14 yr old setters some attention every night after work.
Hunt 'em up Coal!
Thanks from me to all you guys. It always means more from them that BTDT and suffered the same. Magnum Man
Sorry for your loss. There will be another dog ready to meet you when the time is right. Good dogs are like friends who have passed. They live on in our memories. Hasbeen
I have no doubt Coal wanted for you to get home....so sorry for your loss.
Doc
Truly heart breaking.. Coal certainly waited and wanted to say good bye... Our dogs may be our very best friends in life.. To say I am sad, doesn't seem nearly enough in such a sad event.. But I am sad, and very sorry for you pal and yourself.. Best wishes..
Condolences on the loss of your friend
It never gets easier, had a German Shepard do about the same thing, got home and she didn't come to greet me. Found her in her hiding hole, Under a stair storage area in the garage. She moved over a bit and licked my hand. Went to get the wife and told her Sasha was going down, when the wife went to look she had passed. She waited until we came home bless her. Wife and I cried like a baby. So sorry for your loss.
Darn I hate hearing about Dogs passing. Condolences BTDT way too many times and never gets easier.
MM - Sorry for your loss. It always hurts when our friends are called home before we are. BTDT way too many times. I remember each and every one of them with fondness - hope you are blessed with the fond memories of Coal . . .
The first dog I had, Minnie, (I was about 2 1/2 years old) along with my cousin in @1954. She's been gone for over 50 years now and I still smile when I hear the name.
Sorry for your loss! Always tough to lose a good friend.
Remember the good times with your buddy, we know the loss hurts, you have my sympathy
