ducks and pheasants

12 or 20 gauge?
I have zero idea how big the ducks and pheasants are in Ireland but I hunt everything here in the US with a 20 gauge...including turkeys, Canada geese, sage-grouse and other big birds, let alone pheasants and ducks.

Are you required to use steel or other non-toxic shot in Ireland? That may or may not have a bearing on your decision.
12's might be easier to get and less expensive..

Great trip and does it really matter when you are having that kind of fun? Answer. It doesn't.

Addition: If the Pheasants are driven and not walk-up the 12 may be the wise choice. Pheasants up at 40 plus yards could use some extra shot.

I'd be tempted to say 20 like my Grandfather took (and is fine for all pheasants IMO) but as others have alluded to I don't know if they require non-toxic shot and if the ducks were over dekes vice passing that would also bias me towards a 20.
