Got this one recently in 243 cal. Had another years ago in 250 Sav, should have kept it !
I dont see many of these, any of you own one ?
I have one in 250-3000 that I restocked with a 70 FWT stock.
The 250-3000s have a 1-14" ROT, so bullet choices are more limited than they could be.
If I remember correctly, I think that was the reason I sold it. Never understood why Winchester did that !
I wanted to purchase a pre 64 Model 70 in a carbine but they are hard to find and when you do find them they are $$$$.
Always had a thing for pre-64 Carbines
Yeah, saw that.
Just to be clear, mine is a post 64 also. I think they were only made for 3 or 4 years.
Those are the bullets that I shoot in mine, plus the 75 grain VMax loaded to match the 75 grain X and the 87 grain TNT loaded to match the 87 grain HotCore.
Does the 1 in 14 twist shoot the short 87 gr Speer Hot Cor’s ok? I thought one in ten was slow. What was the twist rate for the pre war 250’s anyone?
I bought two new ones in the 1980s, a .223 and a .250 Savage. Neither gun shot particularly well and the stocks were very plain. I eventually sold both.
I have one in 250 Savage. I sighted it in and have never hunted it. It is one you don't see everyday.
Yeah, saw that.
Just to be clear, mine is a post 64 also. I think they were only made for 3 or 4 years.
The 70 LWT Carbines in 250-3000 were only cataloged in 1987.
I had a 270 with a featherweight styled barrel. That gun shot extremely well. Cold barrel, hot barrel so hot you could barely touch it. all went into tiny groups. I put a Brown precision stock on it and gave it to my Dad. He shot a deer with it and decided he didn’t like the muzzle flash. He sold it
And bought a Ruger 77 laminate stainless in 280
Wish I still had that gun
I have a USRAC model 70 youth carbine 243 that I bought for the oldest son in 1986. Really light & shoots great.
I've got one in '06. I had it hard chromed by Mahosky and replaced the stock with a McMillan Winlite, added a Brockman pop-up peep and a Leupold 6x36. I like it alot, but will likely switch the scope to a 1-4 when the right one comes along. Regardless, it's a solid, handy hunting rifle with either the peep or the scope.
Is this a carbine or classic compact
Mine is a limited run "Synthetic Matte Carbine" in 7mm-08 from the early '90s.
