A friend has offered to sell his late 1920's model 94 & asked me to make an offer. He does not know current values so I'm looking for your thoughts.
38-55
Octagon 24" barrel
All original, mechanically fine
No cracks or major issues with stock, appears to be original finish with usual wear from use
Bluing is all but gone
I do not have any pics
I looked at recent sales on Gunbroker figuring that might show the higher end prices(?) There were not a lot in similar condition, either much nicer finish or there were no bids at all.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have always hated buying and selling at the same time. put it back on the seller. make him do the pricing.
that said , without any pictures to go by, and not knowing what the barrel is like, if'n it was me and i had to price it for a friend, i would offer 850.00 and see if that ruffles his feathers.

The barrel on a rifle is 26" not 24". Often the barrels are shortened for varying reasons. There is a SMALL chance it came from the factory with a special order 24" barrel. Since the rifle doesn't appear to have any other options, it is highly doubtful that the barrel was ordered that short.

Thank you, $800.00 was where I was thinking of starting. After I get a good look at the bore.
I will recheck barrel length, it didn't seem long enough to be 26" though.
I'll try to get some pics.

I have several 1894's in 38-55. If the bore is in good condition, $800.00 is a steal.
