Just finished putting a 1" decelerator pad ( yes red) on a mid 50's 06' Featherweight. Bare rifle w/o sling came in at 6 Lbs. 9oz. which is about as light as I've owned in their factory stock.
With Talley Lwts. and a leupy 2.5-8x36 I should be about 7 1/2 lbs.
Have you had one this light?
Not with a decelerator.
Had about the same with an aluminum butt.
That’s pretty light!

I don't know what my newest '56 270 fwt weighs, but imagine it is heavier than the aluminum butt plate '56 30-06 shown above.
wow BSA, that is light.
Got the scope mounted up this morning and the 06' fwt came in at 7lbs. 6.5 oz. my lightest model 70 of all.
Hope to get it sighted in later today.
Is that a low comb or monte carlo stock on your 06 fwt? Yours is definitely lighter than any of the several I have had come through here. Latest one here is 7lb 14 ounces with dual dovetails and a fullfield ll 3x9 on it (monte carlo stocked 1961 30-06 fwt with factory buttplate). Talleys would drop somewhere over 2 ounces and IIRC the fullfield is 13 ounces so there is room to drop a couple ounces there though at some point it will probably get a decelerator put on it.
This would be it. It is a customized model 70 22 Hornet that has a Zeiss Diavari 3-9X36 scope on it and the gun with scope weighs 8 pounds.

The Zeiss adds a lot of weight, it is the older version and they used lead in their glass in those days.

Note the shortened action…

Shapnel, for that rifle I would put up with a few more oz.
PatB mine is with a MC stock, unbedded.
Shrapnel, Every time I see that shortened Hornet, I drool. Any info yet on who might have done the work? Just beautiful!

I took it to Kalispell and had Monty Mandarino look at it to see if he could tell who built it. He couldn’t tell, but did comment that it looked a little bit like Tom Burgess although Tom probably was gone before this rifle would’ve been made. I am going to leave with Stephen Dodd Hughes, who will eventually write an article on it, and he told me he would try to pull it out of the stock without damaging it to see if there’s a makers name Under the stock.

Not too bad for a scoped weight. If you can, post some pics buddy!! Let us know how it shoots too!!
My 56 270 FW with mounts and vxiii 3.5x10 is 8 lb 3oz. Could be lighter with a different scope.

I should weigh my new to me 270. I’ll bet it’s heavier than handwerks rifle. It’s all in the stock weight. Some are lighter than others. I’ll get a weight on it when I get back home.

I'll have to remember to put mine on the scale when I get home. I don't think I have ever weighed the wood ones, but I did weight the Fwt I put in the EDGE and I wanna say that rifle goes 8lbs or just under with a SS 3x9 on it.
May not be the lightest but it sure is pretty!!

Just for chits and giggles. Here's a good comparison. One of my newer rifles: H&R 340 30-06:

Something that is really funny. My 338wm and 300wby are lighter:

300WBY shown in both pics^^
My mod 70 eatherweight I got new about 2002. With 2-7x Redfield and base's and rings it's 7 lbs 12 oz.
I own three pre-64' M70's and they are all customs. My latest, this 6.5x55, is now my lightest.
