I'm thinking traditional, and am looking at Old Arms of Idaho for an OEM walnut stock, love the way those original stocks look.

But... I'm halfway interested in other aftermarket stocks, though not really into plastic. I could do carbon fiber, I just need a traditional profile that's not too light (right shoulder can no longer take a pounding).

I know laminated stocks are generally heavy, though they do look mighty cool. And probably soak up recoil.

Anyway, I have a couple weeks to get this done and start testing loads. There are pigs and deer that need to be ground checked come Fall here in Texas.

Thanks, Dutch
Is it a fwt or std wt? If you go with a factory stock, I’d suggest having a 1” pachmayr decelerator installed. That will make a big difference over the hard factory pad.
Thanks BSA, yes it's a standard weight barrel.

I'll post pics when I get home. I was thinking about a better recoil pad since my shoulder can't take a heavy 30-06 any longer. I need to establish what my correct length of pull is before I get in too deep looking at factory stocks. More than anything I want this to fit as perfectly as possible, so if that means something other than factory walnut I'm prepared for that.

My length of pull is 16", I'll go with 15.75" to cover jackets, etc.[Linked Image][Linked Image]
Well dug this out and took pictures thinking it may work for you and then re read your post. This is inlet for pre 64 not sure if it will fit the bill now? Plenty of Birds Eye to work with here.

A pre 64 stock will not work out very well on a post 64.
I have a stock that would work great for you but it is factory and obviously would be a standard length of pull. I could post some pics if you are interested.
Thanks all, I've come up with a replacement stock with correct LOP. I'll shoot it first, but will probably glass bed it at some point.

Next week will start loading some rounds to see what we have!
