I didn't think Winchester ever offered the M70 - of whatever version - in .284 Winchester, much less one with CRF and a DBM. Evidently they did, unless this has been cobbled together. NB, this is not my rifle, so I have no connection with the listing other than I just found it interesting.

No, it’s legit. They made either ~100 or ~300 of them depending on what internet post you want to believe. They are the rarest and most collectible of the DBM and usually bring in excess of 2K in 284.

Wow, thanks for that information. I had no idea.

Pretty much anything anyone could want in a hunting gun.

Hell the magazine’s alone are worth a fortune and this one comes with 2 extra ones.

I remember seeing one new on the shelf of the LGS. I wanted one in the worst way but I just didn't have the money. If I had it to do over again............

Man, someone is desperate for that gun. I just can't bring myself to go over 1000 or 1200 if it was really nice and something 'different'.

I saw one of them that was NIB, but it had a synthetic stock.

I guess the old saying is buy when you see it if you haven't seen it before because you're probably not going to see it again. But I am not that guy so I wouldn't buy it at that price either.

I looked for one of these for years and could never find one so I built my own winchester bolt action 284.

You were right. I wonder if the person who bought it is going to shoot it or just leave it as is.

I started with a pre-64 model 70 action from a 30-06, sent it to a friend who works at Krieger barrels and he made the barrel that matched a pre-64 barrel contour including the rear sight boss. I did not cut the dovetail or drill for a front sight so it resembles a "gopher special". I have it in a really fancy walnut stock but also have an original pre-64 stock for it. When he cut the chamber I also had him lengthen it so I could seat the bullets out further than a standard .284. The .284 has been my favorite caliber for years and I always thought Winchester really shot themselves in the foot by not offering it in a bolt action rifle.

Wow that looks amazing! There are three .284 Winchester rifles in my family, but all are lever action Savage 99’s and a Winchester 88. Cool guns but none of them are a true representation of the .284’s potential.

A 150 grain W-W powerpoint bullet at 2800 fps is plenty formidable but I’ve always wondered what a good bolt action with modern bullets could accomplish.

Thanks for sharing!!
