Winchester Model 55 Semi Auto 22RF Single-Shot.

Probably not one you'd see very often. Full size rifle, so not really for kids. Loading port on top of the action, bottom eject, auto safety, open sights, 22" barrel. Well made, no serial numbers, about 45K made circa 1958-1961.

No so good old picture from an early cheapie digital...

You are right, not a Winchester you see too often - very nice!

Ladobe: These nifty little rimfire Rifles came out when I was 11 years old.
I shot a lot of rounds through one of these - and you could actually get off a second shot relatively quickly if you had the next cartridge in your fingers while firing the first round.
I wish I had that little gun back today.
I see them only rarely anymore at gunshows and gunshops.
By the way as most of you are aware the folks at Winchester decided to "re-issue" the Model designation "55" for this rimfire as the first Model 55 (centerfire) had ceased production many years prior.
By the way they were rather accurate - at least as far as a youngster could ascertain - scope mounting was not conducive on this model.

Thanks for the comments (and welcome).

I traded a friend long distance a TC Contender 222Rem carbine barrel "only" for it around a dozen years ago. He initiated the trade, I never used the TC barrel so "eventually" accepted. Eventually because I knew the 55 lever rifle, thought that is what he was talking about when he first emailed me to bring up the trade and I balked at first as it was not even close to a fair trade for him. A phone call later and the trade was on. Appeared to have been shot very little it was so clean. A kick to shoot, and as said quite accurate and with the full size stock a nice shouldering rifle.

My brand new auto 22 I got back in this models production days 1959) was a High Standard/J.C. Higgins Model 31 with a Higgins Rifleman Senior 4X scope. Another oddity in a way with its beavertail forend "wings" overlapping the action, and bright red retractable buttstock sling. Still have it and the scope, still as good as new.

With the bottom ejection, watch what you wear when shooting it. Them little 22 cases are HOT when they slide down your shirt sleeve and come to rest on the inside of your elbow.

Nice rifles.
