I'll start it off with my 1937 long tang model 71 that I lucked in to last year at an antique firearms gunshow in Portland. I had been wanting one of these for a long time and as luck would have it, it fell right into my lap. It is a sweet shooter and I have taken it on an elk hunt (last year). It was during the second season general bull hunt here. I drew down on some cows and waited for a bull to pass by, but that didn't happen. Hopefully we'll see some this year!!! Ed, the first one looks like a 71 carbine. I'm probably wrong. I like the 94 as well. Anyone have any 64's or any levers with really pretty wood??

Sweet babydoll, did these mod 64's come in .218bee and zipper?, I am a 218 bee lover! one of the oldest long time ,oldtime whitetail hunters in my childhood said the .32 was the bomb on whitetails, 90% of the lever guns I grew up with were 30-30's. very best on some nice guns!

Those 64's are cool. They remind me of the 71. I almost bought one in 218 bee..

Don't know about the 218 Bee, but the 64 came in the Zipper. VERY expensive for a nice one!

35, Those are some beautiful Winchesters..

1917, My uncle had a .348.. begged him to sell it to me but he gave it to a son in law that sold it for beer money.. Nice rifles all..

This is one of the few I own: 94 .30-30.. My neighbor owned this one.. After he passed I bought it from his sister..

Screwed up again..

This was my dad's .32 spl. Now mine..whitetails, antelope, mt. lion, and now a p. dog.. Fine old rifle.. Bet it hasn't been fired 100 times.. Made about WW2, I believe.

Here's one I unfortunately sold to a good friend a couple years ago. Likely the prettiest '94 I'll ever own, and it was a "standard TD rifle", not a deluxe.







Wish I had it back, but at least I'm glad it's with a friend who appreciates it.

I've hunted with all 4, the 94 Deluxe was used by my youngest son 21 years ago to take his first buck, nice 8 pt.

BSA drives me nuts with these threads. Mainly because I'm either too busy or too lazy to get some pics took. Decided that would change today and I made myself empty the vault. I did forget about the 88 though.

A couple of junky 2nd gen Colts did manage to worm their way into the pics though.



92 SRC's, R to L, 25, 32, Browning 44 mag, 38, and 44 WCF. The 38 is the one that started the addiction.

Well start this one with a 1901 10 gauge, and round it out with the 95's in 30-40, 30-06 SRC, and a modern 405 TD.



86 derivatives. 71 Browning carbine, 71 Winny rifle, 86 project rifle that I had refurbished into a 20 inch short rifle, 45-70 caliber, Browning 86 SRC 45-70, and finally a Winny 86 in 40-82.

I been holding out for one made in latter part of 20th century and chambered for either .307 or .356. It's been real long time and I fear I may never find one.
For love of God I do not understand why people shy away from real good things and buy mediocre stuff. Why do most good things have to be discontinued because customers don't want them?

In .308/.358 that was the best lever action ever made that is why it did not sell and had to be discontinued. You know, wonderful modern "bolt action" with a lever was simply too good to use.

There is a Savage 99 in 358 that is better than any 88.

I have considered for sometime stating that when a guy goes from A
Winchester to a 99, will probably never go back to using the Win. lever gun.

This is a Winchester thread/forum, but I may just have to agree with that ....Well, except for the last part. It would take a very big crow bar to pry me away from my 71

Internal rotary magazine plus magazine capacity indicator on earlier vintage 1899s did not make them better than legendary Model 88. Dream on.

Model 88s were legendary for being a pos. As a matter of fact the 88s and 100s helped create the pre 64 market. Those and the post 2700000 94's fall in the same category for me.
The savage cut off is serial number 1000000 and they skipped the 800000 range to get there. The clips were not good for 99s either.
A 71 is a fine gun, too heavy, try to scope one.
I have to say when you went on about how great 308/358 88s are, I seriously thought there was good chance that was sarcasm.

I don't mind the 88's they shoot well,the 100's are junk. Savage made just over 500 rifles in the 800,000 range, i never figured that one out!! I do like the 358 caliber got several savages and 1 featherweight model 70 in 358,my go to caliber .

Although there seems to be a lot of love and disdain, both for the 88, it still isn't what a Finnwolf is/was. This 243 is a better version of an idea that just never went too far...

Those are all great Loggah. Our collections are similar; you got a few and I got few. Right side of the case in the bottom picture looks like it has a real good mix of 1886s? Nice catalogs in the display case too.

Maybe the one piece stock on a scoped lever gun is too far from tradition, even if there are some good ideas there?



That top pistol grip carbine in 38-55 is a real gem in my opinion.

I have both an 88 and a 99
88 is a post 64 that I had rebored into a 338-08 or now a days it's called a 338 Federal.
The 99R is a 358 and is the first year they offered that caliber.
The 88 is as accurate as any bolt action rifle I own, but has a terrible trigger, not bad once you get us to it.
The 99 is fairly accurate also, but nothing like the 88.
The 88 has a nicer feel and fit, slimmer and easier to shoot.
The 99 is more like a 2x4 in looks and fit.
I would not trade away either.
