Found an intriguing Model 70 at a local shop earlier this week and decided I just had to bring it home.

It's a push-feed Model 70, 1990-91 by the serial number, chambered in 7STW. The barrel is 26" long, stainless steel; the action is chrome moly, and it has a Jewell trigger. The barrel is marked "Sporting Sharpshooter" on the right side, and "Winchester Model 70 7mm STW New Haven Connecticut" on the left side. The barrel has two proof marks just ahead of the action, a WW proofmark, and another that I don't recognize.

The action is pillar bedded into a McMillan Supergrade pattern stock, painted grey. The action is full length bedded, as is the bottom metal, and the bottom metal is the factory three piece unit, but it only has two action bolts. The stock is marked with the rifle's serial number.

From my quick and dirty research I think this is one of the first 7mm STW's built in the Winchester custom shop in the early 90's. The first run of push-feeds had McMillan stocks while the later Model 70 Classic Custom Sharpshooter II's had HS Precision stocks.

Anybody have one of these rifles? Any thoughts on shooting and loading the 7mm STW?

No pics yet, but I'll have some up next week. I'm looking forward to working with it; I have no need for a Big 7, but the price out the door was less than the cost of a Jewell trigger, so I couldn't pass it up grin
Wow, sounds like you got a great deal on a cool rifle. Let us know how it shoots for you.
My buddy talks about these I think he has on in a 300 win mag anyhow these were brought out to compete with Remington's bean field rifles whatever they were called. Anyhow these model 70 like the one you have used top of the line everything to include the barrel. He told me the barrel maker but I forgot.
Congrats on the rifle. Sounds pretty danged cool. Love to see a picture or two of it if you get the chance.

I'd imagine the STW would work well with heavy does of H1000 or RL25 and 160-175's. Good luck.
Congrats on your find.I was thinking the 7STW came out around 1996.There were a lot of 7mags reamed out for the 7STW shortly after it was introduced.Brass is a little hard to come by,but there seems to be a new surge of interest in the cartridge lately so that may change.Remington tried to kill it with their 7mm Ultra Mag.But it seems the Ultra Mags have lost a little of their luster.I average around 200fps over my 7mag in every bullet weight, but it takes about ten more grains of powder to do it.Recoil is very similar to the 300 Win Mag.Reloader-22 has been my go to powder.
Really nice find! Post some pics when you get a chance. smile

DO a search for 7mm stw brotherhood. You will find out everything you want to know about the stw. I have a 1991 sporter and it shoots winchester WXR powder with 140 nosler combined tech really well. You got a deal.
I have one in 300 win mag, it is the later classic CR feed, custom shop Schneider barrel, it is shooting 1/2 inch at 100. I have 2 Laredos in 7stw, all are set up for long range. Im getting set up to really reach out to 1000 with them. very best
The second proof mark on the barrel is CS or Custom Shop.
I have a 70 Stainless Classic STW.

My smith went through it & tweaked, squared, trued and refined EVERYTHING that could be tweaked without changing parts. It is a shooter.

It loves 140 AccuBonds over a Layne Simpson charge of IMR-7828. LAZER fast and lights-out accurate. 140 TTSX's do well too.
