Asked this on another "gun forum" without any answer so I hope you don't mind me trying here.
I got my circa 1904 1895 in 405. Bought that insanely priced 38 WR BNIB NOS sight that was on ebay. Gun is not D&T'd for rear stud. It looks as though I need bolt to retract about another 3/4". Any simple way without going through entire disassembly procedure?
PS. Is it true the thread size is 11/36? Where does one find that tap?
Thank You All
If no one can help you here, can probably get an answer to your question on the Winchestercollector forum....

Providence Tool supplies an 11-36 tap and #18 drill with their reproduction sight. You might be able to buy direct from them or maybe Buffalo Arms who sells them has an extra. A little information here: http://www.providencetoolcompanyllc...n-21-Sight-Installation-Instructions.pdf
To remove the bolt, with the action closed remove the pin stop screw (the hole the front of your new sight mounts to) and from the right side through the hole that lines up with the screw you removed, use a punch to drive out the pin connecting the lever to the bolt. Should come out fairly easy. Cock the hammer and open the action. After the locking bolt drops and and the breech bolt starts moving back you should be able to swing the front of the lever down slightly to disengage it from the bolt and slide the bolt out.
Thanks Chum on the lever tutorial. Kinda jogs my old brain now. If someone had installed a providence 21 I would buy their tap, cause. You know Providence would want about a buck less for just the tap than the whole kit. Not that I blame em. Funny, You cannot find the 11x36 tap designation anywhere
