I just took this off my recently purchased '56 FWT 30'06. Would appreciate any input identifying this rear sight.
Looks like a 22G or 22K, but not exactly.

Don't believe it's a Winchester. No dovetail?
Came straight off my FWT, but doesn't look exactly like the 22G's or 22K's.
It was seated tight. Put the gun in the Tipton and kept squirting it with Rem Oil top and underneath and finally got it to pop.

Wanted the rifle period correct, so bought an OEM Winchester front hood off ebay and ordered a Lyman 16A from Midway.

Front sight hood is already on. This rear sight, even with the elevator all the way down, was keeping the new Swaro Z3 3-9x36 from settling into the Talley Low Reversible's.

Just gotta tap the 16A in and remount the scope.
Not like any Winchester sight I ever saw.
Me either, so far.. and I've been lookin'.. a lot.
How did that sight work on a M70?
Was there like a dovetail blank that had been threaded to accept the screw to hold on the rear sight???
Fellas, here's how it was anchored to the barrel.

With the sight body and elevator stamped of some pretty flimsy sheet metal, it sure doesn't look like anything Win would have put on a M70 in the prime of their popularity. JMHO.
yooper
Definetly not a Winchester sight....

What I thought. Concur, not from Winchester.
Something happened to the factory and someone took what they could find handy and cobbled together a way to shoot, prob worked and was left as is... easy fix. very best winpoor
Thanks, WP. Already picked up a Lyman 16A.

Looks like sheet metal old Buckhorn probably from Stevens or something similar. The 16A was probably the best barrel mounted rear sight Winchester ever offered. The exception might have been ERA-Recknagel they used to equip Express Magnums with in the 90s. Four dollar metal block filler plus quality scope is far better solution.
