Pre war guns are nice but they hold no special interest to me as they can't be scoped and I don't see well enough for iron sights past 50 yards or so. Maybe it's been drilled. Kevin is expensive but please report back after you have checked it out. I KNOW you will go look at it:)
I have a Stilth (sp?)mount and steel 4 or 6 power weaver begging for a pre war gun! VB WP

Pre-war 70's with a Stith are very cool, with a G&H sidemount not so much....

AMEN, Poconojack!, I passed on a MINT super grade 257 Robrerts due to G&H sidemount! Looking back I should have bought it and found proper action and parted the rest out! Hell I bought a mint mod 70 with a dog damn compass in the comb! I could live with that!!!I cannot do the drilled in the side recievers! and G&H were top of food chain at the time!!! v best WinPoor

Exactly the way I see it...
I like em but to me the Transition gun is the peak or top of food chain in the model 70's, problem being the 264, 300 win mag and 338 were not around then as well as the 308 or 243! It all depends on how deep you want to collect!

I had a 70 wearing the bottom half of a G & H mount some thirty years ago. The folks at the NJ repair facility got to be like old friends, but alas, they never came up with the rest. I feel they tried as we exchanged several calls. I finally grew weary and sent it packing. IIRC, it was a .300 H&H. In those days, I was buying and selling to pay tuition for the daughters. I would not still have it anyway.

Good luck,

Jack
