Pictures are worth a thousand words in threads like this. This shotgun was referred to "Everybody's sweetheart". 80% condition examples in all original condition are probably pretty rare. As we all know, originality boosts prices and firearms such as this one should really be checked out by professionals for an accurate appraisal. But for chits and giggles, lets go to a book I use as reference from time to time: "The red book of Winchester values". Here is what the book says:
"Model 42 Standard grade shotgun,
26-28" barrel, ribbed fore-end,
plain wood finish, pistol grip,
plain barrel, 410 bore"
"80% very good condition": $1,650.00
Now after posting pictures of said firearm, all is subject to change...
