Took the pre64 Mod70 I acquired from Yar out again today with a box of 150gr NBT reloads. It hated them. Like 2in hate. The 150 Barnes shot better, but they were erratic better. Nothing consistent. Never went passed 100 because it couldn't have been good.

Had 6 factory Nosler 165gr Sierra GC that I was going to shoot for brass. So after the NBT frustration figured I'd shoot the 165's up and go home.

Now, this trigger needs some work and if it is under 6pounds I would be surprised. But, there was only 1 shot out of 18NBT's I would have blamed on a really bad pull.

Anyway, I think this rifle wants 165's

I'm sure there is a 150 loading out there this rifle will like. But after 3 different ones: Barnes factory, Nosler factory and my reloads, I'm not going to spend much more time chasing it. Especially when I'm thinking finding many 165's will be time and money saved. This group wasn't happenstance. Not much different than the others that went down range other than 15 grains.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with 150's in a 30-06. Unless you have a stash of a few thousand without a good 308 Winchester to burn them up. Then, just maybe, I'd run the 150's... What does your good ol buddy keystone ben run in his fwt?

Ben said he uses 165 Accubonds and Partitions; I do have a stash of 150's along with a couple .308's and a .300Savage that like them more than a little. All is good and the more I fool around with this rifle the more I like it.

Addition: a long time ago in a far away land, had a .300WM that shot 150's into impressive groups and was just as impressive on Deer.

I hear you battue. I've had a few 300WM's and a WBY mag, the whinny's like the 150's very well. Especially the factory remington corelokts. I burned up many boxes of those things, as they were the cheapest thing I could find at the time.

Same here. It was a Winlite I had re-barreled with a hart. Picked up some 150gr Rem Coreloks to make brass; quit right there and shot factory out of it for the remaining time I owned it. In fact, just recently traded it off to a friend who did some carpet and tile work for me.

. Yep, I was doing that too. Back in the 90's, I found the R-P brass was much better than the W-W stuff. Call it sacrilege, but from what I could tell, it was just better right out of the gate. I remember selling quite a bit of that brass I had and it all came from factory ammo. The young guy I sold it too was having a hell of a time finding any brass for his rifle. He was new to reloading and was very appreciative. I still have 100 pieces of the stuff. I keep it because I gave my dad my old 300 and I still load for him.
