Somebody started a Winchester "kill" page last year but I haven't seen one this year yet so I'll revive it.

Killed this 150 lb 8 point this morning, Model 70 Lightweight Synthetic Carbine 7mm-08 with some 20+ year old Remington Extended Range 154 gr. I haven't hunted with this gun much, preferring more "exotic" chamberings, but it is perfect for hunting in a climber, like this morning. He was facing me at about 130 yards while standing in tall dog fennel, and all I could see was from his neck up. I put it on the white patch on his throat and he was DRT.

Yep, that is pretty cool. Very nice bull and great old rifle there...

Congrats to all those Winchester users! Nice critters here. Well don on that elk Handwerk! Can't wait to see more. I would like that old 95 to connect with a nilgai when we go to the south Texas ranch in several weeks. But I know it will probably be just like last year. I'll be too busy quail hunting! Walked up on a really nice bull last year doing just that! LOL. Quail are easier to carry! wink

Nothing special this year. Cow was taken with 300 Win mag in Brown Pounder stock. First time I've ever used factory ammo on elk (the 7WSM was going to be my primary gun but the trigger sear broke two days before season). Hornady Super Perfermance 165 GMX round did the trick well.

[img:left][Linked Image][/img]

Doe was taken with 7 WSM in McMillan super grade stock. Load was 120 TTSX with 71gr. of reloader 22. Shot was a little over 250 yards. First Antelope hunt for me. They are pretty small animals but fun to hunt.

Very cool. Nice rifles and animals. Hey, what rifle did the sear break on? Was it a NH classic? Probably late production 2005-2006?? Just a wild azzed guess... Those cast (or as they call it now: "MIM") parts pizz me off!!!

Stainless Classic in .270 Win. Rolls his own loads IMR 4350 / 130 TTSX. He missed a good buck during muzzle loader season. Doesn't play video games, doesn't watch TV. He's an outdoor junkie. I love this kid!

Gunnut that's a nice buck!

BSA, it is a later NH rifle. Can't remember if I bought it in 2004 or 2005, it's mostly sat in the safe BC the trigger sucks! If it didn't shoot so well I would of sold it long ago. Now that it's in a nice stock I'm gonna get a new trigger. My dad got it working again but it's unsafe unless it's set at 7+ lbs.

Really didn't want to shoot this cat. It and it's 3/4 grown kitten slipped up within 20' of me. I tried shooing her away and when I moved my hand up to flip the safety off the Mama Bobcat moved closer. I guess she was protecting her kitten or territory. she was growling just like a big tom cat warning a dog to stay away. I wish now I would have just stood up.

Got this guy with about 5 min of legal light left with my M70 Classic in 30-06 with a 180 AB handload. Quartering shot and he ran up the hill and zigged while
the rest of the elk did a zag. Found him after about a 40 min search. Not too great on the hero shot, rifle is laying next to pack off to left.

I was hunting an old overgrown pasture in Hopkins County Texas. At about 7:45 am this buck slipped up in front of me only about 80 yards away. Unfortunately I was looking at the sun rise and had tall weeds in the way with really bright areas and super dark shadows which made a "skillet shot" a little more difficult.
He managed to go about 40 yards after the hit with the 130 grain Hornady interbond hand load. Exit wound in photo. entrance wound at edge of opposite shoulder. Had to shot a little back because of the tall weeds.
Rifle is a reworked '37 model 70 rifle.

Posted By: RiverRider Re: 2016 Winchester Kills - 11/23/16
I got this one Saturday afternoon. I've had a poor couple of years on the lease, and was surprised when this buck walked right out and volunteered. Shot with my pre-64 in .264 Win Mag launching a 140-grain Accubond at around 3150 fps. The entrance wound can be seen, the exit was just behind the off shoulder and lungs were completely destroyed. He ran about fifteen yards and expired.

I screwed two sunshades onto my scope that afternoon because when I left camp I still had not decided just where I would go, and from some of the spots I use I have to look toward the sun. As it turned out, I had the sun behind me.

I never get tired of showing off game taken with my 400 Whelen. It's a left handed model 70, Shilen barrel, NECG banded front sight, barrel band swivel, rust blued and drilled and tapped for a Lyman 48. This year it wore a Redfield 2 3/4x Post and Crosshair but it changes back and forth between that and the Lyman 48.

This is a dry caribou cow taken near the McClaren River.

I grew up hunting jacks in the sage. The "good ol days"....
My father Kayeoodie, was kind enough to let me borrow one of his 1895s in 35 Winchester. So this evening my oldest son and I were out at our place and I put a 250 gr Hornady round nose through the shoulders of an 8 point. The loads he sent me with were some I made for him last year for an elk hunt. Makes deer fall like a sack of potatoes.

Op- had that same M70 syn carbine 7/08 and neck shot a Mule Deer about 110 yds in CO years back w a 139 handloaded at 2850 via Varget. It was a handy fast hand handling killer! Dropped a deer on the run about the same distance in timber in La - and used a similarly FWT deluxe in 7/08 on other kills. Those carbines balanced better than M7's IMHO.

My 14 year old's first whitetail, a nice little Tennessee forkhorn.

Details:
Her 70 Classic Featherweight 6.5x55, Redneck shortened to fit her & worked his other magic on.
Older Swaro 1.5-6x42 with #4 in Dual Dovetails that is just about perfect for here.
She loads 100gr NBT, 42.0gr Varget, & Lupua brass (GunLooney88's low recoil recipe) and practiced a lot.
Low heart shot at about 45 yards, and it ran maybe 45 yards more.

We had a great time, and words just can't express how happy I am that she was successful this year!!
