I have a barreled action 30/06 that someone has cut the barrel down to 18 inches. Im thinking of having it rebarreled to 6.5. Has anyone done this? Will I have feeding issues? I know I will need a new bolt stop and magazine
You might not need anything, I have a .260 built on a rem. 700 long action( action I had) and it worked out. I did change the follower to a short action follower and put a half inch block in the back of mag well eventually but it was not major. I would try the Model 70 first before you go getting parts you may not need.......
An old pal who was a very accomplished match shooter had a pair of Palma rifles chambered 308. Both were built on pre war 30/06 actions. He never complained abut any issues in feeding and function with the shorter case in the 30/06 length box, despite several barrels and in excess of 200,000 rounds through both rifles in practice and competition.

My first reaction is I would be less than thrilled with the short case in that long box but that's just me and bet it would work OK.
Carrying a long action screams for a long action cartridge.
Take all advantages given.
.280AI is the meal ticket!
Or 6.5/06 - 6/06 if you reload.

6.5 Creedmoor belongs in a SA, just my opinion.
PM pre64win and get another factory barrel for it. smile
I'd go the 6.5-06 route.
Look into the 6.5x55 I'm rebarreling one of my pre64s in that.
I've got a 260 barrel on a Long Action Model 70 and it feeds just fine....YMMV, but I doubt it...

mine's a push feed style...

I think this would be your best all around 6.5mm on a long action.
