My stepdaughter has a 95 in this caliber. I am pretty sure they produce brass. What would be a source? When I get my other iPad set up, I will post a picture.. I would say it is at the low end of fair shape, but it has an octagon barrel. What would the low price be for the rifle? I know it is a guess with out a photograph.

One of these showed up at local pawn shop in 40-82, rough bore and 30% bluing. Was told it was refinished at sometime, they are wanting something like $3400.

I saw one used as a decoration at a bed and breakfast in South Dakota.

Bertram makes brass, available from Huntington Die Specialties.
Almost impossible to give a value without a better description or pictures but a pretty trashed example would still bring $600+ on the low end. Mike Venturino did an article on the .40 cal 1895s for Handloader magazine in the April-May 2015 issue.

The 40-72 Winchester 1895 has been for me, the most elusive Winchester caliber to get information on. What I did discover over the last 20 years is that the 40-72 and the 38-72 was a black powder cartridge, just at the time smokeless was takeing off. The barrels on those rifles are all black powder barrels, and aren't designated smokeless like all the other 1895's in the various different calibers are. As far as i'm concerned I would only shoot black powder out of them.
Hope to see a picture of Wyocyotehunters' 1895 40-72.
