All:

I stopped by a small gun shop today to pick up a rifle that came in for me. Anyways, I noticed this Model 71 on the used rack. It was no way close to a collector gun because it had a recoil pad, side mount for scope and what looked like to me was a reblue. But what drew me to pick it up was the barrel length. I believed at first that it was a carbine because the barrel was 20 inches, or right close to it.. I have not seen a 71 carbine in the flesh before.

My question is this: Was the front sight ramp on this 71 integral to the barrel, or was it put on there as a separate piece from the barrel???

When I looked at the ramp, it looked like it was put on there via a screw, which in my mind could mean that the barrel was cut. Again, the gun was well used and clearly altered. Just not sure if the barrel was cut. The price was $1K.

Thank you
Integral
$1K with all those alterations? No way Jose.
As much as I'd like a 71 carbine, I'd walk away from that one. I can accept some alterations, depending on price, but a cut down rifle would be way too much for me. The front sight shout be integral, like the picture below.

I was at a gunshop in WI early this month and if he had one M71 he had 10 of them. All different price ranges and condition. I almost bought another one but passed. If your looking for one I can send you the information on the shop.
