I just won a bid for my fourth one, all stainless. I like the tang safety and smooth 60 degree bolt throw. But I don't notice alot of love on the Forum for them. Am I alone in liking them?

OSU_Sig has one he re-barreled and I think RGK may have a slightly customized one as well.

No, you're not alone. You have plenty of company among the deluded and misinformed. smirk

Yes, I have one that was re-barreled to 260 Rem. The A-Bolt is a great rifle and the 60 degree bolt throw is very nice. A well made and accurate rifle.

I enjoy them. Great shooters. Nicely finished. Had a 270 and a 7mmRemMag. Got a 270WSM that 'replaced' both of them so I sold the other two off.

I also seem to recall bea175 having one in .22 Hornet.

I like A Bolts also. Don't have one at present but I've had them in 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag and 375 H&H. I just can't warm up to the Winchester 70 though. It is nice that we southpaws have so many different options these days.

Mine is a .223. It has a 6X42mm Leupold on it. I had my Army gunsmith buddy, Justin McMillan, adjust and tweak the trigger to a nice 3.0 lbs. I also had Browning engrave the bolt body with my name (I know, it sounds gay, but it looks cool). It's a nice little carry rifle that shoots HSM 42 gr Calhoon bullets into one hole. I like the short bolt lift, angled bolt handle and the build-quality of the rifle.

What I DON'T like about it is the cheap, pot-metal trigger, floorplate and triggerguard. If those were replaced with steel (or if I could find them aftermarket) I'd give the rifle 5 stars.

I have an Abolt Micro in 308. I like it a lot. Shoots extremely well and is easy to carry in the woods.

I really like the a-bolt. I wish they still made the hunter model as I have trouble warming up to the x-bolts.

I've had a number of them -- down to just a .338 now.

it started as a SS Stalker with a BOSS (cut off) and restocked in one of their Safari stocks (with crossbolts).

I'm not sold on their durability, but it's about the most accurate .338 I've ever had - a true (routine) 1/2MOA gun

I have two A-Bolts, LH Micro in 22 Hornet and my LH SS Stalker in 30-06

I had built a Micro in 250AI. My son has it now.
A simpler safety and trigger, a blind feed magazine would make it perfect. I love a 60 degree bolt lift.
Winchester should make a 70 push feed with a 60 degree bolt lift.

??? Then it would be no better than a browning.

I had lefty 30-06 Stainless Stalker and got rid of it for some reason. It was a shooter.

I have had my A-Bolt in 30.06 for quite a long time. The first few years it worked beautifully, dropping deer every year with one shot. It got a bit boring, so I have branched out to the 7-08, then the 257 Roberts[Savage Custom shop is great to work with], and now this year will be the 6.5x55, none of which will work any better than the A-Bolt. It fits me well, the stainless action means I don't have to worry about the weather(at least for the gun), the BOSS decreases recoil and allows me to tune the gun to the load I want( Nosler 165 gr BT at 2600 fps- more than enough for Missouri Whitetails). I might flirt with other guns and calibers, but this A Bolt will be the last gun standing when I start getting rid of rifles!

Savage Custom Shop? Tell us what you had made. I'm having a stainless/classic wood-stocked number being built there now.

I gave my LH SS Stalker 338 WM to my son and my LH SS Stalker 300 WM to my Hunting Buddy and now just have to in the last post photo left
Posted By: USAFA71 Re: Browning A-Bolt - 05/27/13
I had a left hand 257 Roberts built with Accustock and Accu-trigger. It puts 100 gr Nosler Partitions into 1" at 100 yds at 3000+ fps, and 115 gr Ballistic Tips into 3/4" at 2800+ fps. It was built on a short action, but I can't argue with the results. I am considering getting another in stainless, but not sure it will do anything better than the first one.

everybody needs at least one Roberts, either in Standard or Ack Imp. Here is my Left Hand Sako in 257 Ack Imp
