I know the group buy went down in the past.

Are any of the large sizes out there commercially.

Or privately?

Good luck. There were a couple 223 barreled actions on GB recently, but I don't remember seeing a LA any time in the recent past.

Jeff if in your search, you come across one in 22 hornet and decide to pass on it please let me know. I've been looking for one to make a 17 hornet out of.

will do.

I'm looking for a possible elk rifle. I've been working on a synthetic stock for my MkV Wby, and it appears to have become finicky on me.

And maybe I'm just getting too old, but I'm not into the finicky challenge anymore.

I'll remove some bedding around the barrel shank, and mess with the action screw torque, but I'll not spend a lot of time on it beyond that.

It will shoot, or it will find another home.

My weatherby must have heard I was shopping around its replacement.

After a little relief of some bedding, and some other cleanup, its back to <MOA.

I did see a hornet during my search, but it was right handed....

Would love to get (2) more 30-06 length LH zastava mausers for projects...

I't's strange that I've seen several of the left handed Charles Daly mini Mauser actions in the past couple of years but haven't seen any of the large actions in many years.

This company has left handed Zastavas listed, anyone have any experience with them?

They are widely and relatively cheaply available down here. I wonder why no-one is bringing them to the US market?

It's a sister company of K-Var, with whom we arranged a group buy on AccurateReloading.com forums.

Just checked out a left hand .30-06 on that site. They indicate the rifle weighs 9 lbs. Seems on the heavy side for a sporting rifle that isn't chambered for dangerous game cartridges. I wonder if that weight is accurate.

My LH Zastava 9.3x62 weighs in at 8lbs, 6oz with a Leupold VX2 3x9x40 mounted in Talley LW's... 0.557" muzzle diameter with a 0.366" bore. Gets a little "thin" at the far end. grin

Your figure sounds more realistic to me Orion. I like the Zastavas but don't care too much for the stock.
Posted By: Orion2000 Re: left hand zastavas - 05/27/15
True. Stock is not a strong point. But I knew that going in. If I were 'ambitious' like Utah708 or Jim_in_Idaho, I'd already be working on trimming the stock down to a reasonable size. Ain't got that ambitious yet. Keeping my eyes open for a used synthetic at some point.

Have about 2,000 reps on the bolt. It is fairly smooth now. Still takes more effort than my M70 or M700's. But it's a different feel. For lack of a better description more "solid" feel when closing the bolt ? This is my first Mauser action. So, still learning.

Trigger, 3 position M70 style safety, and different bolt knob are next up when the funds are available. At this point, no surprises, no regrets.

Try tuning the factory trigger first. The one on my 9.3 came up a treat with about 15 minutes work. I am going to get the factory handle straightened before leaping into an aftermarket one.

When you have the 3-position safety installed, make sure that the smith has the entire action and the trigger so that the timing is right.

Factory trigger has a bit of creep. I did get it adjusted down, somewhat. Will still probably replace. I like the idea of straightening the factory bolt handle. But, would prefer to have some amount of checkering or knurling on the knob. Right now, I am into "easy/simple". If the person doing the work indicates easier to weld on the desired configuration, so be it.

Yep. Kinda figured that would be the case. First step is to get the fire control settled. Best if there is only "one chef in the kitchen".

From there will start thinking about barrel and stock. This will probably end up being another "stone soup" build. But, I am learning a little bit about Mausers along the way, so, figure it is worth it...

RWE, My apologies for hi-jacking your thread...

Would be interested in buying/trade for a lefty 22 hornet.

Fairly sure that Zastava don't do their leftie 85 action in the hornet.

Seriously?

Milk it for all you can get, bro, and then dump the cow at the curb.

I'm digging it. It helps me get ducks in a row when I need to pull the trigger on another LH LA.
