Last year, Dogleg, I think and another guy had done a Buff cull hunt and I needed to get their names and where their stories are, as a guy on A/R wanting to set up such a hunt and I felt these two guys, Spalding the other one, I think, would be able to give him some straight scoop. Thanks.

I've been watching that thread over there on AR and the trip looks like it would be a complete blast!

I have always wanted to visit Australia and this deal is very tempting...

I'm Dogleg on AR.

Dogleg is a bend.

Yep, in my case a nasty twist in an oil well.

model70guy, have you advised the guy of who you went with then? seems to me it was gunsmoke or some such. 50 buff for the week, at a flat rate. But dogleg had went over and also shot other stuff, so bill a lot higher.

I did a couple culls last year, for a total of 390 animals. Of those 112 were water buffalo. I don't know if that particular hunt will take place this year.

If it's too good to be true then it is. This is!

Too good to be true? Well no, its true enough. Too good to last? There's the problem. The hunt as we did it may not be repeatable because a market for meat has opened up to Vietnam and when the animals have value they quit being a pest and become a resource. Its not hard to organize a cull hunt for a dozen or two if you will pay the kill fees, but to shoot 100 for just a dayrate seems like a little unique blip in history that's gone. I'm glad I was able to jump on it when it was available, and I'll keep an ear to the ground for another chance and other opportunities. That was my 5th cull hunt and for me there's nothing like it. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for the whole family though. For instance, if you aren't a hardened killer, aren't willing to soak up hundreds of heavy rifle rounds in a few days, aren't ready to book short notice with a newer operator and aren't willing to solve some sometimes daunting ammo logistics it may not be for you. Actually, it may not be for anyone, because if its over its over. Oh well, if its over, it was fun while it lasted.

m70guy -

WOW, looks like it was a blast!! smile

Just my luck with it probably unavailable now. smirk

I wish we in the USA could get a CULL hunt for 'wolves'. IMO the only goodun is a deadun. shocked

Actually; it turns out there is a cull in a different area, and the same outfitter. I'm working out the details for myself right now.

It looks like 7 days, 7000 bucks, 2 x 1, 1000 bucks worth of charters, a couple dozen (more or less) mixed bulls and cows apiece. You'd likely find yourself of the stand and deliver end of a boning knife, but the faster you make buffalo into crocodile food the faster you get back shooting. A couple Euro mounts apiece can be saved, and there are no trophy fees unless a bull goes over 100 SCI. Scrub bulls, pigs and dingos are freebies.

I'm working on my own dates for August. grin

How about things like donkey culls, they still do those? I would love to go to Australia just to see the place, but a few days of shooting would not go amiss either.

I've done three donkey etc culls, all with Hunt Australia. A good week seems to be a couple hundred animals but like all hunting luck does play a part. A big factor is how fast you can shoot.

I'd like to find some 100 a day shooting, but suspect we're in the wrong decade for that.
