I worked with an Australian Air Force officer...I want to say his rank was a Flight Lieutenant or something. He was an Air Officer with Multi-Natonal Forces in Iraq, attached to Regimental Combat Team-2 in 2005.

He was a crazy Mother [bleep]. I wish I kept in contact with him.

Good guy to have on your side.

and a Salute to all of those Kiwis who are Vietnam Vets...

I was recently talking to a Kiwi Vietnam Vet now in his 70's who said that he thinks about the Vietcong and NVA he killed almost every day. Said nearly all were very young and although he was doing his duty he is filled with remorse.

There is a town in Alberta called Anzac, just southeast of Fort McMurray. Anzac troops were stationed there during WW2. They have had to evacuate the area due to wildfires in the region. Anzac itself was an evac center for the city of Fort McMurray. Unfortunately the fires have crept too close to it now as well.

And thanks for the huge sacrifices made by the U.S. armed forces when stopping the enemy at the gate in the WWII Pacific war.

An interesting read for you fellas in the US and Canada would be the battle of Long Tan, D company of 6 RAR would have been wiped out if not for the courage and accuracy of the kiwi artillery battery, after the company was nearly over run they called in the artillery and the kiwi's dropped the stuff almost on top of the trapped men, without a shadow of doubt it saved them from being wiped out.

Of course that battle went on to be probably the aussies finest hour in Vietnam.

Lest We Forget

Long Tan is brought up so many times and flogged to death ,that some vets have expressed that it feels like they were not in Nam,
because the enemy encounters they were engaged in and where their mates made the ultimate sacrifice, dont rate much of a mention.

Well now is that a fact??????

I raised Long Tan simply to highlight the effort of the kiwi artillery and the effect they had on the battle, maybe you should talk to a few more veterans eh, take it somewhere else if you want to engage in a pissing contest

Conveying what frontline Nam combat vets have said who were not at Long Tan is not a pissing contest...its an equally
important part and personal perspective of the subject concerning the remembrance of all ANZACs and Aus Vietnam
combat involvement as a whole.

To put things into perspective;
Long Tan 18 killed 24 wounded
Australians killed in battle overall 414 wounded in battle 2348

The sacrifices of Long Tan have been made vivid in peoples minds which is a good thing ,but the other 400 battle dead are mostly
just treated like a statistic. Most Australians cannot name another Aus. battle outside of Long Tan.

For those interested , I spoke at length this morning with a US Marine Corp. US Navy flight surgeon that plied his profession at
Da Nang base hospital 68'-69' in the heavy period. Said he had worked with some Australians and still has the slouch hat given
him by one. He spent his R&R in Aus and lived in an Australian family home during that time and is still in close contact. His time
at the controls were behind the glass of the F4 and A6.

Well I'm glad you did, and it would be fair to point out that NZ were in it together with Aus and US artillery.
and that A/F was directed by a NZ Captain attached to Delta Company 6RAR.
