It's been a long time since I helped fill one.
You?
Early 1980’s for me. Dairy herd was sold in 1985 and that was the end of that. Some of the coldest, wettest and muddiest days of farming. Much preferred baling small square bales in July to that torture.

When the silage freezes to the walls, a chainsaw is LOU :DD!
Been years(a lot of years) since I chopped silage. But I loved hearing that 4020 John Deere twisting that 2 row choppers tail.
last blue harvester I filled would have been in the later 80s
nowadays you just run stuff through a chopper boiler bullet wet and Wrap it
Must have been in the mid fifties. Milk inspector came around and said we could not have the silo next to the barn. Had to go to trench silos. Instead of using a wheel barrow to haul it to the milk cows in the winter, we had to startup the tractor, take the wagon the the trench silo, fill it, bring it back to the barn, and then wheel barrow it in.
Real pain in the butt to get it done in the dark before we went to school in the morning
