All of a sudden my yard is taken over by this plant in the last week. It is like it came out of nowhere. Never had it before.

What does it taste like?.....

Looks almost like some kind of Verbena.

Henbit. Just looked it up yesterday to see if it was an important flower for bees. Internet says yes, but my bees are not using it, and I have a lot in my yard. I wanted to find out before mowing. Can't figure why it is not being used. miles

I hope that is not creeping charlie!
If it is, it seems impossible to get rid of.

It is somewhat akin to ground ivy. If it shares much beyond looks with ground ivy, it will rank among the biggest pains-in-the-ass in the plant world. Getting rid of it is not near-impossible, it is completely impossible. It will spread everywhere - look for it to be growing in your sock drawer, freezer, and tackle box. If capital punishment is allowed for no one else, it should be allowed for anyone who knowingly introduces it into an area.

2-4-D....that'll get rid of it.

If weeds take over your yard, you're cutting the grass too short.

Mix carefully. wink

I had a patch of Bermuda grass that had some weeds in it out front of my house last year, and was making some pasture spray to kill some broadleafs. While I had my rig there mixing, I gave it a good wanding. Killed everything. Bermuda included.

I had the mixture set for a certain flow rate at a certain speed in the pasture, and evidently applied too much with the wand out front. frown

Good news is that Bermuda is hard as hell to kill, and now it's back to normal. But it sure looked like hell all last spring and summer.

Henbit isn't a big problem, it is a cold- cool grower, when weather heats up it's gone seen it grow all winter here in fallow fields

My mower never gets below 3" Any other ideas?

Looks like the cold snap is wilting it away. May be a good time to spray the 2-4-D.

I'd let it die off on it's own.

As Miles' stated it looks like henbit it will die out when the night temps get above 55*. I cut my place last month before it got thick.
