I don't know if I mentioned it but I'm new to lake fishing.

I want to set up a bunch of leaders ( I don't know if this is the right terminology but everything past the end of the fishing line).

I fished on a lake last year and had a lot of luck with spinner spoons with beads. So I bought some spinners and some beads and also the small ring like thing the spinner goes on.

My rods have 4lb test line and I bought some 8lb test to make them and the line as at least half as thick as the line that comes on the pre-assembled ones (spinner bead things).

My question is what pound test line should I be using to build these things?

Also about how long should I make them?

Thanks

Tom

Is this what you're making?

If so, your 8 pound line is fine. I've made em also, with leaders 3-5 feet in length. Have only used maxima 12 lb line.

What kind of fish are you trying to catch with them ?

A 40 pound salmon is a lot different than a walleye or a bass.

yes that is pretty much what I'm making but not as fancy. Just using 4 beads then the spinner spoon and then one more bead to finish it off. I've been making them about 12" long.

Very good question. Almost exclusively bass, sunfish, etc...

Sounds like 8lb test is good. Is 12lb test going to be too thick and alert the fish?

Thanks

i use 12 pound for walleye and they are picky bastards.....we make ours anywhere from 4 to 6 feet long.....length can change the presentation.....if you fish clear water longer is better aswell, least for walleye....

ours are anything from dead nuts simple a colored 1/3 inch round float ahead of the hook to 8 or 10 inch "necklaces" full of beads and sometimes more than one spinner....have caught fish on them all....walleye are such picky bastards its best to have a range of stuff so we let our imagination run wild and usually it will work atleast occasionally....

This is a worm harness I made using a stinger hook for the short tappers
