Lure collecting is big, and it's HUGE in Japan.
As Antiques Roadshow has taught us, condition is everything and the value doubles if you have the original box. An unused original Heddon lure in its box can bring several thousand dollars.
Holy crap, that's crazy.
Who would have thought.
flashback- i went thur my dads old box in the late 70's ....and took the lures out of there boxes and tossed them. what the h*ll is the box for was my thinking...lets fish
im goin to have to look up my stuff on ebay soon. Ive got a bunch of old Heddon lures
That lure sold for more than my boat & all my tackle is worth!
About 30 years ago I was in a rural hardware store looking for a pluming part & found a box of dusty Heddon lures. I purchased 6- Heddon Dowagiac lures in original boxes with papers for $12.00. All have been stored in plastic bags & unused. Best guess is that they are worth several hundred bucks each.
There's a book called "The Heddon Legacy" by Bill Roberts and Rob Pavey, published by Collector Books (collectorbooks.com) that you might find interesting. The story is interesting and the photos and prices shown are jaw-droppers.
Well, darn. I just checked and they don't list that book any longer.
Second edit: Holy Hannah - the flipping BOOK is now worth over $200 on Alibris!
