cant wait until there's some Hardwater around here.
These are my favorite pics from last year.
I'll add some new ones as soon as possible
I know the feeling. However, the top side is for us, under for the fish.
Already?! Very jealous!!!
You gonna eat that?
Yes we are and they are grrreat!
Those pictures are from last season. Right now only our Class A waters are open. Class A's are typically the smaller put and take fisheries but some are loaded with smelt. We spend a ton of time catching our bait now so that we don't have to do it as often when the "better waters" open January 1.
Unfortunately I have a hard time keeping my wife out of the bait bucket as smelt are so good to eat.
Great pics! Keep 'em comin!
Nice looking icehouse!! Let's see the inside.
Friday
!
Lunch on the ice venison backstraps and some hotdogs.
Hawken and I with a couple trout.
My little guy out for his first time ice fishing minutes before stepping into the whole I told him not to and sinking up to his nuggets in ice cold water. I wish I had a picture of the look on his face.
we set up on lake of the woods in northern MN at noon on sunday.
The house sits down on it's frame so you are right on the ice for fishing.
I drilled the holes before letting the house down so we didn't have to deal with the mess inside the house.
We stayed out there sunday night and monday night, came home Tuesday afternoon.

(slot fish, had to release it)
This is the way we used to do it.... I don't miss this
It was cold, damn cold.
You can see behind the fish bucket that the house frame is part ways up. We were cranking up to head home after about 50 hours on the ice.
Heading home.

You're killing me Holmes! Awesome totally awesome Dave!
How much ice?
Dober
We had 16" under us, other houses sitting on an area that opened up in early dec and had to re-freeze were on 13".
That looks like fun Dave. Nice ice "shack".
ddj
Dave, you continue to make me jealous with your pics!!!
Walleye or Sauger?
What is that yummy looking stuff on the ice with the sauce on it? It that bait or your lunch?
Rooster..that is fresh Northern Pike marinating in Sriracha hot sauce waiting for the grill to get hot. That mixed 50/50 with bbq sauce turns out to be pretty good on bbq'd fish if your up for a new recipe!
tipmover,
That spearing shot is bad ass.
Travis
i see in the bottom of this pic that your weasel enjoys the cold weather about as much as ours......damn near have to throw her out the back door in winter cause she aint interested in going out in the cold....
Lol! The hairless land otter.
Yeah he's a woosy.
But he loves watching those bobbers and waiting for the fish to come up!

I'm always up for a new recipe! Sounds delicious!
Dave,
You are a wealthy guy in every way that really matters.
Thanks from Sweden for the great thread showing you spending time with your family!
John
I always wondered how you choose fishing spots on ice. Do you use a contour map and find channels? Do you chum? Always wondered.
the wife speared her first northern today, no pics, will see if i can get the video up tomorrow....
dammit i wanna go ice fishing for seals.....
Sunset on LOW MN. (lake of the woods)
A "pout" (eelpout), ling, burbout, what ever you want to call them.
fish camp.
nice walleye.
I thought everybody would like this.
This is a bombardier School bus manufactured in 1950. A winter time school bus. Originally it would have had a flat head 6 cylinder and a 3 spd manual trans.
It now has a 318 and an auto trans.
It belongs to forum member "white bear", he can tell you more about it.
He brought it up to our fishing spot on Saturday to give some rides. If you are going to go for a ride in/on a 62 year old snowmobile.... This is the ONLY way to do it.

I'm pretty certain I drive the birthplace of your "ice shack" every day...nice digs!
Growing up in n WI I sure spent many an hour out on the ice catching pike, crappie, walleye, perch, blue gill, bass
Thanks for sharing
This has been a fun thread to scroll through and I hope to be able to add some pictures to it this weekend. I've been working on a small, trailer mounted shanty that I can pull about 300 yds down to the end of the road we live on. The road ends at a public access to a decent sized lake.
I don't know why, but in the nearly 10 years that I've lived there I've only ice fished about 5 times on this lake. I hope having a shelter will make getting out easy enough to make winter fishing more appealing for me, the twins and possibly even the Mrs. I don't plan to leave the shanty on the ice, but will pull it onto the ice, tilt the bed of the trailer and set up shop.
Dave your Fish house is too cool! I just got a place about 250 yrds from a small lake, Hopeing by next year to have a shanty like the ones on Grumpy old men! buddie & I are going to build it next summer! I even have one of them red land otters!
Great Winter pics all you fellas up North...I've never stood on frozen lakes before,..your pics leave me in awe...
ND,..you eat this..? Having never seen one, first thing that I thought of was the few ling cods I've caught off the coast of CA. Kinda similar in appearance.
Been missing your posts, wondering where you been. Glad to see your time has been well spent...
It is so fantastic to see ice fishing pictures of something other than the dinky bluegills they are always showing on the sports around here.

I do eat them, I gave that one away to a friend though. Handling them has a certain ick factor. but you can pull the skin off them with a plyers like a catfish. Then you can cut boneless meat off of them without opening the gut tank on theses beasts lol!
The meat is actually really good.
SWEEEEEEEET!!!
Hows that tikka working for you?
I love it Tom! I slipped it in a B&C Stock and scoped it up. I have done zero load work just using my AR loads with the 55 gr VMax and that rifle just plain shoots!
It'll be going coyote hunting up on the lake this weekend with me.
Wow! Fantastic pictures Ted!
A few older pictures..I'll have some fresh ones after this weekend. All fish were released other than the ones I kept
I'm guessing this one was filed in the "kept" category.
That looks like Fort Peck country?
Yesterday.....
Ted
Nice bunch of fish Ted!
I'm dreaming of a YT summer......checking reels...ordering a new depthfinder and some SECRET LURES........
Is Fox Lake still good for burbot?

Is Fox Lake still good for burbot?
It is still pretty good, Vern. Laberge is where those two big ones in the pictures I posted above came from. I haven't tried for burbot at all yet this winter. You been out yet?
Don't forget there is always a bed and something on the stove if you need it while you are over this way.
Ted
Ted,
Thanks for the offer but I need to spend some time with my prospector buddy by the lake as he doesn't get a lot of conversation with folks.....
I'll avoid teh ice and catch burbot in the Tanana River soon.
Great thread guys. I haven't seen a lake freeze over here since 1968. Of all things, smelt showed up this weekend at my local grocery seafood counter. Never seen them there before. How do you prepare them? They look like bait to me.
I should take more pictures
These are from our last outing fishing for Whitefish on Green Bay offa Egg Harbor, WI.
A little arm stretch on this one.
And it is always an adventure.
Hey, at least the road was nice and dry for changing that tire.... lol
Great pictures.
Cool pix mtmiller! Love the sunset one with your fishing parter
