Can get the basic 2.5 Suzuki for $707 new in the crate. Have an Old Town Seranac square stern. The boat is supposed to be 110 pounds or so. My choices are the 2.5 Suz or a 3ph Tohatsu. Difference in weight is about 10 pounds. Fishing small lakes and strip mine pits so the longest run will be less than a mile from dock to fishing spot, normally a lot less.

Never had a small outboard. Wondering if the 2.5 will push along nicely with two adults and a couple of tackle boxes.

Thanks.

Dan
You could probably get 5 knots out of the 2.5. Compared to an electric motor 55, you'd get about 2.5-3 knots.
I think it'll do fine if you ain't in a hurry. A guy I know put a 6hp on that same Old Town. It would scoot. I have a 4hp merc 2-stroke (tohatsu) on a Pelican square stern and it does great with two guys, upstream. I would NOT go bigger than 4hp. Launching a canoe typically involves a bit of shallow wading to get the motor in place, wading around with a heavier motor than a 4hp isn't my idea of fun.
