Love that picture, where were you.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Old fishing picture - 01/18/15
Thank you!

Wabigoon, Ontario is where the picture was taken.
It is, of course a picture of a picture.
I was straining with the load! [Linked Image]
Near the same time frame, friends at lunch time on Wabigoon Lake.
My grandmother must have taken the photo, my grandfather in the red shirt.

Awesome!

Thank you, the man to the left was Joe, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as section boss.
Joe could roll a cigarette with while steering a Johnson Seahorse outboard full speed with his elbow, and light it with one match.

The days of Shakespeare green 50 pound test braded line, steel fishing rods, June Bug spinners, six fish limits, and no slot.

Fire members must have some old good pictures, may I see some?

Ain't gonna eat those damned things are ya? smile

Couldn't tell -- what type fish were those? I'm about 5 years younger than you but I remember the old fishing line that was dark green or black and was woven.

Walleye/pickerel fish, as it was over sixty years back, the catch was enjoyed long ago!
Posted By: VernAK Re: Old fishing picture - 01/19/15
Fifty years ago I canoed through that country from Atikokan. Also fished a few years North out of Perrault Falls to Anishinabi Lake.

Probably changed a lot since.

Thanks men, I'm sure other folks have some good pictures to share?

Very neat pictures. I enjoy the glimpse into the sporting past that pictures such as these allow us.
I'm not old enough to have any black and whites of me and I can only think of two fishing pics of me as a little sprout that exist, at least that I'm aware of. One is me at about age 3 in overalls and a baseball cap trout fishing at a small lake in Colorado. I am not facing the camera but my posture says I'm pretty serious about catching one of them pesky rainbows. The other is of me and a cousin, around age 5, doing our best to heft a stringer of fish we caught with my Grandad.

I don't have a copy of the first shot, it's in Dad's bookshelf bad home. I do have one of the second around here somewhere, I'll see if I can round it up here in a bit.

You may need to take a picture of the print, we should get the idea.

The only really old one I have is of my dad, someplace in France or germany during WWII with a pike, which he no doubt killed with a grenade.

My grandfather on the left, and friend making coffee,
My best guess is they were on Graveyard Island on Dinorwic lake. [Linked Image]
Note the Johnson Seahorse Ten, and Larson boat.
Graveyard island is so named because a missionary, Henry Johns, died at the age of 46, or so, and was buried on an Indian reserve.
It was mainland at that time, then the dam at Dryden raised the water level, and made an island of the spot.

Guessing this was taken on bear lake,Idaho. grandpa on the right, mom in the middle along with an uncle

Fruitland Idaho area, gramps fished a lot in Oregon in that time period as well,so not sure which side of the snake the fish came from.

Re: the Johnson motor. Way back then the state required boats with motors of 10hp or more to register and pay a small fee, hence there were a lot of Johnson Seahorse 9.9hp motors on boats in this area.
