Anyone running a Suzuki?

Looking to repower my 16 foot tiller with a 25. I have been looking at the Evinrude Etec, Suzuki, and the Yamaha. Actually been somewhat talked out of the Yamaha due to the carburetor and weight.

Thoughts?

I have a 1994 Duckworth - that's a boat built out here in the NW for our rivers - its a all welded aluminum. Anyway, when I bought the boat with my dad it came with a 2 stroke 85 horse Suzuki. Hardly anyone had one 20 years ago, ran perfect all those years. I finally decided to replace it last March with a new 4 stroke DF90. I looked at all the other 4 strokes and decided the Suzuki was still the best, we see lots of them out here running in the salt. So far I've only got 18 hours on it but its been fantastic, can't hardly hear it when its running, sips fuel and just is a nice motor. I also opted for the Suzuki due to the weight, they are a bit lighter then most of the others except maybe the Etec but that's not a 4 stroke anyway.

Sorry for the long winded reply, but I'm sure you would be more than happy with the Suzuki.

Make sure you have a good dealer to service the motor. I will never buy another one because of the dealer issues in this area and Suzuki's failure to help.

I've had a suzuki DF-140 for eight years now. The only minor issue has been sometimes a sensor won't read right on start up and it will go into limp mode, but I just shut it down and restart it.

Our local dealer has a great rep but I've not needed them to do any work on the engine. I run it entirely in salt water and don't baby it.

I have two of them. A 25 hp and a 2.5 hp. Both 4 strokes. Probably 6 or 7 years old now and no problems.

I have never owned a Suzuki but I did own a Honda and I don't plan on owning either one in the future for the same reason, no dealerships within 100 or more miles. The Honda was a fantastice outboard never gave me a minutes trouble but I always wondered what would I do if I had needed work on it.

When we bought a new 14' Riverhawk in 2013 we opted for the Suzuki DF 20A EFI outboard. I assume you are looking at the same but in 25 hp. So far, it has worked well. We have used it at sea level and at 6,000 ft and the EFI has performed great.

JDK I have a Honda 4 stroke. Not sure about the Suzuki but the Honda and Evinrude have service at Portland Yacht in Portland ,Maine.

It may also be available closer to you as well. Not sure what is further north.

There is a Mercury and Honda dealer in town, a Evinrude and Yamaha dealer about an hour away, and the nearest Suzuki dealer is 3 hours south.

Etecs and Yahamas are running about $800 more than the Suzuki and the Honda is $2K more. Mercs and Tohatsu about $1K more.

An old buddy of mine who's a river rat on the upper Mississippi here in Minnesota runs a Suzuki. It's by far the quietest motor I've ever heard. To my knowledge he's never had any trouble with it.

Thanks everyone

I went Yamaha. $300 less expensive and far better dealer support in my area. Can't image I would have gone wrong with a Suzuki though.

I have a 2.5 horse , does that count. It takes my 1432 jon boat with me and my son on plane . It goes 9.2 mph with me and my son in it. I couldn't believe it when it got on plane with both of us in it. We are about 270 lbs for the both of us in weight. Amazing.
