Weather had my usual spots pretty murked up. Had to get out Friday and scout a bit for Saturday. The licking river was clear enough to fish so that's where I went... I had not ever fished this particular part of the river before but glad we did. We finished the day with a 31 and 40.5 caught by me, buddy caught a 27 and lost about 38 after some really violent head shakes. For bluebird skies and 90* August heat.... I'll take it!

Packing up to head north for my annual pike trip, so I can catch some of those long toothy fish!

Only difference is it seems pike can't wait to get on your hook, and muskies try to avoid it!

Ahhh, they just need a little convincing sometimes. That's all

Good luck up there ingwe... Where are you fishing? Are there any Muskies in the lake? We use a bait called a bulldawg quite a bit. They make a downsized one called a spring dawg...by musky innovations. I bet you could toss it on a spinning rod and have a blast fishing it. Might wanna check it out

We are goin to Ft. McMurray Alberta and flying out of there to a lake on the Sask. border.
Provincial Law dictates single barbless hook only...I don't know how that would wok on the lure you suggested. Our selections are a bit more pedestrian, since pike will strike anything that moves...we usually go with a big spinner or spoon and a plastic worm on the back.

I see....yea the hook wells would need to be swapped out, woukdbt really be worth the headache.

That one was a tad over #25....the one in the first pic was a bit over #5...which is the bulk of what we catch.
This year we are going late in the season. In the fall they undergo hyperphagia like a bear, and big ones are in a hurry to eat a bunch...( Theoretically...)


we are gonna go find out if theres any truth to it, but the natives up there say September is really good!


At any rate we catch a larger number of all sizes in the spectrum in August than we do in june.....so more 9s, 10s, 12s etc...

Those are some nice fish.

My old fella used to fish for pike alot..He always swore by a lure that An imitation of a small pike as larger pike are very canablistic/terrirorial..

This was in the days before modern soft lures so he carved and hand painted two out of wood. One was set up as a floater, and the other to sink.

I have no idea where they ended up, but knowing him, they were probably loaned out and forgotten about..
