My 10yr old grandson called me from Florida. He got a Zebco 33 reel for an early birthday gift. Wants to know what pole goes with it. Spin or Cast? He wants to buy a pole with his own money. He will be fishing a small lake from shore and docks. Told him I am not sure so I'd ask.

What pole goes with the Zebco 33? Spin or Cast?

Thanks
Jim

Cast if it's a push button, spin if it's a under spin with a pull lever.

Good to hear from you again. You've been helpful before. It's the push button. I asked him what the difference between them is and he said "the caster is got smaller holes in it." I was pleased that he knew the difference. I'll probably suggest the "Ugly Stick." I'm thinking he will probably like the name and be able to afford it.

Thanks again,
Jim

The handle/grip is also different on a spin versus cast. You can always tell a casting rod at one glance because it will have a "trigger" grip for your index finger.

Thanks for the info. I have several of each and have known the difference for years but I didn't know if he knew the difference. I'll tell him about the "trigger" He'll like that.

Thanks
Jim

If you get him the Ugly Stix...get him the "Lite". The regular one will be too heavy for him. No longer than 6ft. powdr

^agree^ regular ugly sticks are heavy.

Thanks men.

"Carbon Fiber" is the way to go.

I will be seeing him March/April and may be able to take him to what he calls "a fish pole store" and help him select. Knowing him, though, as soon as he hears from me he'll be bugging his mom to take him to buy one.

Whether it's you or Mom it needs to be a pleasurable and exciting shopping event. A big part of fishing is picking the tackle and planning the trip...especially for the young ones. In any case it looks like you've got a fisherman on your hands and he lives in a good state for it. powdr

And he has been spending his summers with me! His first Pickerel was an exciting moment! I was hoping to put him onto a Northern.

Thanks for the help guys.

Rug: Thanks!

Grandson, Trey, with his Dad (my son) and Trey's first bass. Not quite 3 years old in that picture (last year).

His old man was raised in the back of a bass boat grin , and was looking forward to that particular moment from the time Trey was born. Luckily, Grandpa was there with a camera.

I took Trey to Bass Pro today. We looked at rods, and he "made" me buy him one...what are grandpa's for anyway? wink

Your son's expression of joy and pride jumps off the page saying nothing in life is as good as this moment. And Trey, what excitement explodes from the page with that expression! Nothing in life exceeds these happenings. I'm so glad grandpa was there for that moment in time - and with a camera.

I fully appreciate and take great joy in "what are grandpa's for?" I can see you at the checkout counter, Trey's hand in yours, fishpole in the other and a big grin on your face. Grandpa moments.

Again, a wonderful picture and thank you for sharing it with me.

Thanks
Jim
