We are thinking of heading up to Ft. Peck n. pike fishing in a about 10 days.. Anyone know if the spawn is on? Caught some dandies up there a couple years ago.
Not sure about the progression of ice out where you are planning on going but northern pike are the fist to spawn in the spring, typically before the ice is fully off the main lake.

I think its a bit early....but I don't know for sure.
We fished right off the dam the year we caught some nice ones. I think we were there in very early May or the end of April. It was awesome. Especially for a guy who had NEVER caught even a decent pike!

Well, by all accounts they get cranked up for the spawn as soon as the ice clears, so it ought to be anytime now...
We weren't planning on our annual Canadian pike trip this year...until Ingwewife talked to the lodge owner up there ( we have become good friends over the years....)

Sooooooo...I guess we are going! laugh

They usually start under the ice, and are finished by ice off, although there may be ice chunks around or on shore. Here in northern Mn the pike are going, but most lakes still have ice. Walleye are starting. Go for them as soon as you can. You can always go back!

Cats spawn on the SE corner in a couple 3 feet of water. Caught some big ones using shrimp in may.
