Caught this 5.5 lb rainbow on my 5' ultra-lite outfit. So much fun!!
Wow, that's a nice one.
Bows in Cali., anything over 3 lbs is a big one.
Love catching em on ultra-lights.
So whats the scoop, spinner, power bait, night crawlers ?
Was trolling out of my boat, with no luck. Stepped out where there was some fast water coming into the lake, grabbed my 5' ultralite with ancient Shakespeare reel Ive had for 50yrs . I was using my favorite Rooster-Tail lure, first cast 2 of them chased it in right to my feet!Same with second cast.On the 3rd cast, they were chasing, so i let the lure drop to the bottom, and just started "twitching" it some. He picked it up. and the fun was on!As he ran out the 3rd time, I was trying to remember the last time I changed line (4 lb) on this old reel. Was yelling to my wife to grab the net, and all ended well!
It's almost like a steelhead
Beautiful Fish.
UL is the only way to fish.
Mono is amazing stuff, I still use some from a Herters bulk spool that was purchased early 70s.
When I spool a "big" reel with 6 or *# test it is like handling rope.
Congrats on a great trout and the way you caught it. No question it looks like it weighed all of 5.5 lbs.
My best Rainbow
I caught an 18" rainbow when I was 3 in 1954.
My parents told me. I remember it was dark when we got back to the cabin.
I do not remember the fish.
