I haven't been out fishing till this morning, and went to a little creek close to home. Fishing was OK, but not good. Would have been good if I had hit all my strikes, but I went full retard today...

But a 15 inch brookie got his picture taken grin

Nice one.

I was just wondering the other day why you had not been posting trout Pics and especially brookies.
Posted By: ingwe Re: First trout of the season. - 08/02/16
Just started fishing yesterday Louis! grin

I don't like fishing in the high spring run off then hot weather hits, and Im pretty delicate in my old age wink ( aka comfort-oriented)

So I will start piddling around with fishing and ramp it up as the month progresses. September is prime time....

Posted By: ingwe Re: First trout of the season. - 08/03/16
Not this time around...whenever I take my wife we have to kill a few brookies...
Posted By: Prwlr Re: First trout of the season. - 08/03/16
Nice brookie.

stunning. our season was extended to the end of October this year, hopefully I can find the brookies.
Posted By: ingwe Re: First trout of the season. - 08/03/16
Our F&G are actively trying to get rid of them here, by almost any means possible....non-native invasive species...which is .gov speak for "we can't make any money growing them in our hatcheries..."

They are my faves, the top one in the one pic was 16 inches...

Heres a 17 incher...

And an 18 incher..

We used to get them routinely that were 14 inches, a a few bigger each day...not so much now...

But we are getting more and bigger cutthroats....
Awesome fish there!!! Brookies are my favorite fish.. But we never get any THAT size!!!! My stepdaughter got a 16" out of a lake in the mts. I would love to catch one that size in a stream.. Great photos..
Nice! Those September brookies are incredible. Hard to be a day on the stream catching fish like that. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

But the prize for the day was finding a pocket of fluvial grayling.....very rare in the lower 48.... grin
Posted By: T_Inman Re: First trout of the season. - 08/10/16
The Big Hole drainage has the only remaining native grayling pops in the lower 48...... I catch quite a few near Wisdom.

Grayling are a treat for sure anywhere outside of the far north.
Posted By: ingwe Re: First trout of the season. - 08/10/16
Yeah...these were cool and I wasn't expecting to see them there...I kept having blue fish rush the lure and refuse it...I figured they were rainbows, till one gave me a good look at his profile...GRAYLING! laugh

And I was in a tributary of the Big Hole which shall remain nameless.... whistle

You'e found a gem no doubt, if you're into catching relatively rare fish.

I've got several high mountain lakes on the ID/MT border that I grew up riding into and fishing that have stocked grayling (and goldens for that matter) but catching them in moving water where nobody knows anything about them is a real treat!

Yeah, Ive caught the piss out of them in Hyalite above Bozeman, and Grebe lake in YNP...
Been catching a mess of those green trout here too !

My first fish ever on a fly rod was this 24" rainbow trout I caught last year.

Just bought a few. We will down to the Guadalupe next week.

pal

Congratulations are in order for that catch.

Even in the net I can see the beautiful coloration on that fish.

Louis--thank you. It broke my heart to release him. I would have had him mounted. But my friend, Wally, wouldn't hear of it. smile Fortunately Wally did a good job with his cell phone camera.

Later in that trip he also got a couple good shots of me on a 26" carp that fought me for over 1/2-hour on the same 5wt.

If you got good pics and measurements theres umpteen places out there that will do fish reproduction mounts. Got one done for Ingwewife and Id never do a real mount again....

The brown trout on the wall, if this pic shows it OK...

I have a couple of skin mounts: a 32-1/2 lb salmon (that got me in the Tyee Club, decades ago) and a dorado. But a fiberglass fish replica would have no more value to me than any plastic-ware purchased at K-Mart. Though I realize some are very expertly done.

Because it was such a grand trout, and my first ever fish on a fly, I badly wanted to have it mounted.

I released a 25 inch Brown and a 27" Smallie in the past and do not regret either release. In fact I look back at both releases as some of my greatest days of fishing

Plenty of small fish to eat and the memories of those two fish will be with me til my dying day.

The Brownie was in the late 70s and the Smallie in the 90s and I still have movies of both days embedded in my brain.

Really pretty spawning Brookie and smaller spawning Brownie the day of the biggie and they are right up there in the brain vid. Surprising what a aught Mepps will get ya.

I have mentioned this before, but am always amazed how much of the scenic vista Ingwe captures in the background of his "fishing spots". <VBG>

Watch future pics and check the backgrounds to see if you recognize any of them!
